I've recently got a Mi Box to replace my Raspberry Pi running Openelec / Kodi. Most of my the content I play are ripped DVDs (ISO) stored on an external HDD. I'm considering switching over to Plex to make it easier to watch on multiple devices around the house (sharing library on Kodi is a schlep).

Any suggestions for an efficient (and cheap) solution to run Plex Media Server? I'd thought to redeploy the Pi for that, but unfortunately Plex Media Server doesn't run on the original Pi.

We've only got the one tv. The other viewing devices will be phones, tablets and laptops
Perfect.

Plex sever on the pc.

Chromecast on the TV.

Plex app on all tablets and phones.

Total control and viewing options on all displays.

That's the plan (except Mi Box instead of Chromecast). But I need a server... Don't have a stationary pc at home - only my and the wife's work laptops

Cheapest solution would've been RPi 1 at the TV then just get a RPi3 for the Plex Server (no H265 though). Where did you buy the Mi Box?

I had a friend bring it across from the States. Your solution would've been cheaper, but left me without Dstv Now and Supersport.

How are you finding it? Is the interface smooth? Looked at importing one but might wait for the RPi4.
Picked up the package a bit earlier, but left the Mi Box behind. Dope. Hoping a friend will drop it off a bit later this evening and then I'll open it up. The key factor for me was that it runs on Android and had Chromecast built in. That allows me to run the DSTV Now and Supersport apps as well as cast whatever else I want from my laptop
