Can someone please tell me what settings you are using for your Plex channel?

If I try to stream a 1080p MKV file its take over a minute to load and then still buffers after a while. I have it set on the lowest 1080p setting and direct/fallback.
Streaming the same movie (Rush) on my Samsung TV Plex App, takes a few seconds to load and plays perfectly thereafter.

Odd. Got 4 Rokus and Plex is hundreds on them all.
I don't use WiFi though. All Rokus are hooked up via gigabit ethernet. How is yours setup?

Ditto, though I did experience such symptoms of my Roku 3 when the settings on the plex server weren't entirely correct.

Want to add...
I Dec we went down the south coast in holiday. I had plex server setup on my laptop and hooked the roku up via the Afrihost mifi device. Had no streaming issues there.

So ye - seems like the op may have an issue with settings.

So give me a guide to the settings.

I currently have it hooked up via a good wifi signal. The Samsung TV is is wired. It's easy to swap them around though.

In "Player" with advanced settings visible, I have my local quality set to 20mbps 1080p and all the tickboxes ticked. If I didn't have directplay enabled, some stuff would do what you're describing.

It's just that everyone raves about Plex on the Roku. It's like the be all and end all in media streaming.

My experience thus far is nowhere close :(
Plex on my Samsung TV rocks :)

You could have a faulty Roku? Not an impossible option.
I changed nothing on any of my Rokus. Turned on, installed all channels, and play. Really as simple as that.
Try swapping the connection around with your TV and see if that could be the issue.

Why do you need the roku if your tv has plex?

The interface is a lot faster and Hulu, Netflix and Vevo streams a lot better on the Roku. I just need to get Plex working properly.

I'll try using the Ethernet on the Roku. If it doesn't come right I'll have to use the Smart TV app.

I got it working. The problem was the wifi. It works perfectly via Ethernet.

Now my only problem is my Denon AV receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs. It's over 10 years old. I normally feed the output via the TV but my Tv can't pass the Dolby signal So I'm stuck with stereo sound.

You can pick up a splitter at www.hdcabling.co.za. It takes HDMI in and spits HDMI and toslink out. I used one with my previous amp but sold it when I upgraded to the Marantz last year.

Thanks Mike. I'm going to get one.
Have you tried the Rarfix modified Plex channel? It's got some good features.

Did not know about it. Will check it out now.

It was actually a 4 HDMI in and 2 HDMI out switch, with one of the outputs sharing audio out over toslink. The one you are looking at does the same thing just without all the HDMI inputs and dual output.
IE: It will be perfect.
