Plex hacked — usernames and hashed passwords compromised

Plex has warned users to change their passwords after a third party gained access to one of its databases.

In an email sent to the media server app's users, it explained that it had become aware of suspicious activity on the database on Tuesday, 23 August 2022.

Struggled to just reset a password the other day for hours with a reset email just not being sent.

Just note that where the same password is shared with other services, you would need to re-secure those accounts, too. Just because "securely hashed passwords and authentication data" doesn't mean that the data can't be cracked.

An unauthorized third party accessed a limited subset of customer data from one of our databases. While we quickly contained the incident, information that was accessed included emails, usernames, securely hashed passwords and authentication data.

How in today's day and age was the emails not encrypted, seeing that its their second major breach?
