Okay guys

I just got adsl, i used the telkom adsl router pots cd, so i could create a connection, so i could go on the net. The thing is everytime i start my pc it's connected to the internet, and i can't find a way to disconnect without pulling the lan cable out. I want to create a dialup, so that if i want to go on the net i have to connect first and to be able to disconnect.

Any help would be much appreciated

That is what I am doing at the moment. I have never configured a telkom router but on my router I just set it to bridging mode and then I create a "dialup" connection from the PC.

1. New connection wizard
2. Connect to the internet
3. Set up my connection manually
4. Connect using broadband that requires a username and password
5. Rest is obvious :)

Hope this helps.

Richard

you must set your router to bridge mode (sometimes an easy way of doing this is to reset it - keep the reset button in for 30+ seconds).

Next you would have to install a PPPoE client - http://www.raspppoe.com/ - you can download a PPPoE client from here with install instructions. Win XP has its own PPPoE client - older versions means you would have to download the one I mentioned

Thanx guys for your help, got it to work. I kinda knew bout the dialup RDPearson was talking bout, tried it first time but it didn't work, coz i didn't set it to bridge mode, i used a routed connection, silly me, i was wondering why it didn't work. ;) Anyway thanx to the both of you for your help, much appreciated.
