The star rating works on an average of how much you download over the last 10 days.

If you download during the day your star rating will go down quite fast. If you download between 00:00 and 06:00 it doesn't affect your star rating.

Thanks so just to make sure.
In the new month it does not start with your download at 0 it actually still uses the 10 day window.
Pretty stupid for a new month to begin like that

Why? Otherwise everyone would kill the network in the beginning of the new month and you'd complain about slow speeds. Makes perfect sense actually.

No it does not, I make sure I use my bandwidth sparingly during the beginning of the month and then at the end I go bos.
They bill you per month not per 10days so they should not use my previous month to affect my star rating when a new month starts.
Now because I waited to download at the end of the month my browsing for the next day will be ****.

But then that's your fault, not theirs. Start downloading at the beginning of the month too then.

If I do that the account can't even open banking sites during the day.
It is their fault use a better policy than 10 day average

I take it you don't download between 00:00 and 06:00 then?

If they expect you to only download at that time they should rename the product "Late night Uncapped"

Well it's called home uncapped. So designed for people that only use the internet after they get home from work.

Exactly so what people do you know that comes home after 24:00 to start using internet.
That's my whole point it's a stupid system to implement over a 10 day period.
The whole thing started by me downloading a game that was over 20GB so now because they "think" I will be using 20GB x 10 days for the month they shape the crap out of the line because they assumed I would download that much for the rest of the days

Actually no. You don't understand how it works.

1. Usage between 00:00 and 06:00 doesn't count.
2. if you download 20gigs in 1 day it won't matter if the last 10 ten days you didn't. it's only if you download 20gigs a day everyday for 10 days that you will have an issue.

Now do you get it?

If you downloaded nothing 10 days ago you can download a lot today. That's how an average works.

Who gets uncapped to download only every 10 days?
Forget the usage that does not count after 24:00
I'm talking about your usage that gets counted.
Say I download 4-5GB a day for normal daily usage, now use the 10 day average it works out to 40-50GB
so now today I download an additional 20GB for my game (I don't change my other daily usage it stays on 4-5GB a day)
Now tomorrow my account cant do crap because I'm now averaging 60-70GB for the 10 days (Lets say they shape throttle or what ever at 60GB) After 10 days only I will be below that again even though I'm not abusing the network anymore
Now do you get it?

Even on two stars you get unshaped after 17:00 so you won't even feel it.

Pointless with you but my Example makes 100% sense.
Still makes it a stupid way
And I do feel it

Only saw this thread now.

IS star rating is the most fair FUP around IMO, and these "home" accounts are just that, for people that have day jobs that come home at 5pm and want an unshaped experience.

If you don't like it, give AH home uncapped a go and see how you like that ;)

I'm keen to see how Crystal Web performs when they launch.

If I wanted a Unshaped Experience I would have opted for a capped account from Afrihost. 100GB for R199
But that is not what I wanted, I wanted a Uncapped "Home" account because I wanted to be able to download when I get home at 17:00
Now what I'm getting is a account that I can browse on and only download after 24:00 because if I download too much before that the 10 day average might risk my account being shaped when I get home at 17:00 the next day.
If that is what I wanted I would have opted for the WebAfrica Capped account that gives me 60GB unshaped before 24:00 and then another 60GB that I can use after that to download for R199 a month

So how exactly is this then called a "home" uncapped account....the 10 day average is the thing that makes it impossible to be called that since like my game download example earlier prevents this account from even being able to open websites once you accidently abused the network for 1 day

You can download full speed at 5pm whether you're on 1 star or 5. They only apply for office hours. It's just zero rated in regards to star rating during 0:00-6:00.

EDIT: Have you actually tried it for yourself or are you just jumping to conclusions?

And now my wife is on maternity leave so with the 1 or 2 stars she cant even log into FNB......
Not because I r@ped the account, no because a 10 day average is messing the stars up
