It often happens that someone needs to call a plumber.

I got someone out. Fixed what was required.

Then got the bill ! A jaw dropping amount.

What can one do to avoid that ?

Ask if they ask for a callout fee / charge per hour (for starters)

If I ask for a quote, the plumbers are wise and load the call out fee (which is payable even if I turned them down to do the job)

Yeah I mean I don't know how you can't be surprised by a bill if you never asked for an indication beforehand.

Probably why they went nuts as money is obviously of no concern.
