plz Someone - what's wrong with my PC graphics (pics in thread)

I don't know how much longer I can be online.

It's gibberish on the startup screens, and lots of lines and artifacts while in Windows.
I'm running with all acceleration off & 16bit colour. Formatted and reinstalled Windows. Have not installed graphics drivers (when they are installed it goes crazy - when graphics drivers are installed I can only run in safe mode, but still the lines and artifacts)
I can hardly see the words safe mode on boot LOL

Any of you guys know what this is? Video card?

Any reply would be helpful. Thanks!

Seems like your graphics card is faulty.

Take out the graphics card and connect your monitor to the motherboard VGA and see if you are able to boot into Windows.
 
It is because you are not upgraded to windows 8. This is a new detection feature by ballasmore to encourage upgrade.
 
Looks like the card is on it's way out imo - had similar with an XFX nvidia card a number of years ago; replaced it and all was well again.

Is this onboard graphics or separate video card/GPU? If separate, try unplugging the card from the motherboard and blowing out the dust, then clean the card contacts with an eraser, making sure all the contacts are clean and shiny - re-seat the card and see if any difference.

Also check your PSU - do you have a power cable going to the card? Either way try and test the PSU or try another one to see if the same happens.

Have you been getting random re-boots/crashes?
 
I think I had this problem before, I can't remember.

But try replace your DVI/VGA cable

OMG mine is XFX (GTS250)

I have cleaned everything, like you said. I don't have onboard graphics.

PSU - I'll have to take it to the shop.

Sorry to say bit it's your graphics card you need to replace it have seen this many times when repairing pc's
 
Bake the card in the oven :)

I once revived a 8800 GTX that way, which had the same kind of symptoms.
Granted, when I did that like 3 years ago, the 8800 GTX was still performing well - unlike the GTS250 which is pretty low end.
 
Download and run MSI Afterburner. By default the voltage setting may be locked (IIRC), but its easy to enable it from within MSI Afterburner's settings.
An increase between 0.05 to 0.1V increase may do the trick.
 
Take it to a PC shop. The card is most likely dead and efforts to revive it will add frustration to your life.

I'm back with a working PC. It was the graphics card, like you guys said. Thanks to your help I didn't need to spend money on workshop time - I just bought an MSI ATI 6670 2GB for under R900. I put it in and all the artifacts are gone!
