Podcasts

Huh ... why are you complaining about Telkom ???.

This is nothing new as I have downloaded and listened to podcasts since last year already using the iPodder download tool ... it uses RSS enclosures and there are many available already.

I think PCW is aluding to the fact that with current restriction in place by Telkom it is not really practical to do this. Listening or podcasting yourself would simply cost too much... Things that peeps overseas take for granted, we pay through or noses for...

Indeed... THANKS TELKOM! YOU SUCK!

Yes, antowan, indeed that was my point. Telkom make things nigh on impossible.

It works for me but then I don't sit on P2P or on local DC hubs the whole day.

 now that's like asking for revenge of the flame wars to start attacking...the whole 3GB cap "trend" that Telkomonopoly started & perpetuatates by controlling bandwidth & overcharging for it, is the reason why I don't even attempt streaming audio on iBurst anymore, and normal radio reception is cr@p where I am so I would prefer streaming audio...

About podcasts, it looks like we are being disadvantaged by Telkomonopoly again...

Now would you like more ???.
Sure I do but what can I do except playing the cards (3GB capped) we are dealt with ???.

Moaning about the cap at every opportunity and saying Telkom sucks ad naseum and that Ivy and Steve White are dumb morons and posting about cheap broadband offerings found in Europe or other countries are not going to change things one damm bit.

The best we can do is to support rpm and others like Debbie and the process around ICASA and see if they can improve the situation.

 I thought we were all doing that anyways...?

PS: I am glad to see that you are now a Debbie supporter :D.

Pssst ... just don't tell her ... remember the grilling I gave her a while back ;).

Why not start a new campaign calling on ICASA to open the field for using services such as Podcasts in a cost effective way.

This could lead to a new set of hearings ...

podcasting is not mainstream yet as unfortunately there is a lot of junk floating around with only a few podcasts being off good enough quality I reckon.

It is certainly big news that Apple adding support for it in iTunes but it is overhyped to a certain degree ... I mean even Paris Hilton did a podcast recently for her movie.

The big problem is that you need to listen to it for an hour while to read a weblog entry takes less than a few minutes.

Here is the few podcasts that I listen to

"The Catholic Insider"

A priest that talks about the catholic church and his life and he was in Rome when John Paul II died and did a whole series of short audio programs off the people's reactions on the street and even interviewed a few cardinals on the papal election.

His last podcast dealt with Starwars (he is a fan and visited the Lucas Ranch).

Why can't all priests be so cool :).

"EarthCore"

An author that is dramatising his own unpublished suspense/sci-fi novel in weekly episodes and it is pretty good if you like Clive Cussler books and Indiana Jones movies.

"Gillmore Gang/Gillmore Daily"

Tech journalist interviewing noted industry figures for their opinions and the latest happenings in the industry.

"Speechless"

A chap plays instrumental tunes he found on the net (mostly trippy trance) from amateur musicians.

Well the 3GB cap severely restricts the amount of podcasts I listen to.
I really think twice before downloading a show, always in fear of not having any bandwidth available at the end of the month. Sorry but 3GB’s just does not cut it any more.

If it was not for a couple of hours a month milking my “free” hours on the WiFi at the local Mugg & Bean I would never be able to keep up with all the shows I have become addicted to.
