Have a CCTV setup on big UPS, with a switch 2x gigabit PoE ports.

During load shedding I need a switch that I can connect to one of these ports, and connect to a router that is on another small DC - UPS, that should keep the router up for around 4 hours.

Firstly have around 100 + meters of network cable from the CCTV room to the switch, which then connects to the router.

This switch has no power during load shedding, and thus the CCTV system cannot be monitored while there is load shedding.

So figure I need a switch which can be power via PoE from the PoE capable switch in the camera room, thus keeping the system viewable during load shedding.

Hopefully not rambling to much.

So no you need a switch powered over Ethernet aka PoE pass through switch... How many ports?

Hmmm .... a 8 port switch, would be a simple drop in, a 5 port could also work, just leave the extra connections on the current switch.

What UPS do you run your CCTV on?

One of these should do the work

So found the RB 250 GS, has a passive PoE port 18-24 volts.

The ProVision ****-08130GC+2G switch in the CCTV camera room, has

Total PoE power of 120 volts
Avg. Power per channel 15W
Max per channel 30W

Safe to connect over PoE?

@ The Jam also recommended that.

Have found a RB 250 GS that I had long forgotten about, but his post reminded me, "should" be in the cupboard somewhere. See my post above.

OK so your **** is an 802.3af/at device
I'd have to dig to see if it would work but it won't hurt the device AFAIK. You can plug it in and see.

IEEE802.3af/at PoE so says it's PDF spec file.

Okay, so the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi USW Flex Mini 5-Port Gigabit Managed Switch, arrived.

Plug in the network cable - no power. Take the USW Flex Mini to the camera room plug in it has power.

Okay, pull all the cables from the switch, in CCTV room, then check the switch next to router, CCTV line light is still on. So the cable is connected to another switch, which has power.

Conclusion:

Don't have a direct network run to CCTV room like installer said there was. :(
Barstard.

Network cable is connected to secondary switch that is there to "boost" the rather distant gate cameras.

Anything wrong with my logic above?

So, short of running a new cable direct to the camera room, or replacing the "booster" switch with a 8 port PoE switch, which is PoE powered, and can power all devices, connected to it, via PoE, I am screwed.

Booster switch is a normal switch - no PoE involved - installer cutting corners ...

If possible, Barrel to USB C power cable will this connect to 5 volt output on my Ratel 8100, and power the
Ubiquiti UniFi Flex Mini USW-FLEX-MINI 5-port Gigabit 1 PoE Input Managed Switch?
