My contract has expired(overrated bberry) a while ago; I want a decent point and shoot CAMERA/phone; this jobby on the bb doesn't cut it for me ; what phone should I be looking at; galaxy/note?/iphone/nokia..... (don't mention any sony's please unless you really have to, had a Eriksson phone once and made up my mind never again; had a sony point and shoot and was stuck with extremely expensive "memmorysticks" (R1200,00 for 128MBytes) when I wanted to buy a new camera ; so never again)

The 'Camera ability' is more important than 'phone's ability' as ill probably use the 'camera' more than the 'phone'
Must have/be able to load a timetable(sea's high tide low tide sunset/sunrise table)

I have canon dslr's but they are heavy and not always with you; want something in my pocket;can't take the slr with you when you go cycling on your bike and thought it might as well be a good camera in the phone?

I am surprised at how mice the photos on my Galaxy Note 2 are, way better than my N82 and my N8.
So i would say go for an S3 or the Note 2 :).

You'd have to look and most importantly GO TEST FOR YOURSELF which of the phones you're considering have a decent output of photos. Both in day & night shots. (maybe if you know someone that as any of them).

And if you know your DSLR's well, you'll know more or less what to look for in the phone's camera specs. e.g. MP's / Low level light capability etc.

I've had both the iPhone 3Gs & currently the iPhone 4 (soon to get an unwanted 4s) and the pic quality for most of the "point & shoot" snaps I take when I don't have my REAL pocket snapper, are more than adequate.

So you could go that route if you like.

Having just switched from the BB I'm pretty impressed with the iPhone 5's camera. The dynamic range on it is remarkable (even with HDR disabled) and the image quality is superb. Low light performance could be better but it's not bad.

Thanks; here where I live blackberrys are only strarting to reach our shores :) :) everybody has one :( and think its the best thing since sliced bread; and I'm a bit far from a mall to go to a shop to see it live (our store only has dummies )don't know anybody with a galaxy/iphone so would appreciate it if some one could shed some light on the galaxy's low light ability as well will probably be between galaxy / iphone
Thanks

Ok. Well here is a comparison that could help you more. I just Googled this info, and am pretty sure you can as well. There is a wealth of into online, just so you have any further questions. Maybe some video comparisons as well, of overall features, as you're buying a phone with a camera, and not a camera with a phone. Just be sure you make that distinction for yourself.

1) The Nokia 808 is the king of phone cameras . its got 41MP camera. (38Actual). It oversamples on 5/8MP photos. Has lossless zoom (5/8MP photos). has a Zenon flash. Muliple settings. Probably needs a tripod if you taking pro pics, but overall great. Low light is not that great, and dynamic range could be better, but best resolution on any phone by miles (the sensor is 2/3x bigger than any other camera phone around, though obviously makes a bit of a bump on camera)

Only downside is its running a 'dead' software -symbian belle.

Check dpreview.com- extensive professional photo coverage/review of it.

2) Otherwise best low-light camera around is the nokia Lumaia 920, also prob the best video cam.

3) Best probably all-rounder camera is the iphone 5.
4) Can't really comment on the Galaxy s3, but most of the top androids take great photos in daylight (good light).

Don't forget the panoramic funtion... works really well.
