Would there be a point to this - as one can't really effect DOF with it?

EDIT : A point to adjusting it.

But aperture does effect DOF even on a P&S

See the difference? :)

An adjustable aperture also gives you another means of controlling the shutter speed and/or ISO.

I see the difference - but I've used a few P&S cameras that are quite difficult to control DOF - especially at wider range - and from what I've read, it's the sensor size?

But can't one simply adust shutter/ISO with ever needing the aperture to change? Put on aperture priority 2.8 and just take photo's like that?

EDIT :)

My P&S has a max shutter speed of 1/2000th of a second and you can quickly get to the point that you have to stop down the aperture in order to correctly expose the shot.

Ah - ok ... makes sense in some instances I guess :)

Yea Macro I can do it easily - and zooming, it's also pretty easy.

But for day to day shooting where one isn't using 1/2000 or zoomed out fully, DOF isn't as easy on a P&S and I thought less vital/valuable
