Cape Town - There has been an apparent shooting at Rosebank police station in Johannesburg.

Reports are coming in that Rosebank’s station commander was shot and airlifted to hospital.

Eyewitness News reported that it understood a former civilian employee, who had been discharged for fraud, was responsible for the shooting.

Sturdee Avenue, between Tyrwhitt and Jellicoe roads, were completely closed after the shooting

Sheesh, hope the guy survives! Hmmm shooting someone in a police station, not a good idea to make a swift getaway.

Very sad to hear. Too many of our boys/girls in blue are dying. Something more needs to be done. RIP

Not forgetting something like fifty murders per day - just ordinary people like you and me but the government is not too fussed about that.

This is a very worrying trend in this country where "disputes" in the office are solved by guns... what the hell happened to reasoned conversation etc.

Tragic

Pity this idiot managed to kill himself, I would prefer to have see him cripple himself and live the rest of his life as a quad

Unfortunately it is difficult to declare these offices as gun free zones

Gun free zones (not frequented by criminals) ?
You have to be joking.
Some years ago I went to Grand West for the launch of a new veterinary drug.
I was carrying a 9mm and the sensors failed to "see" it and, although I had originally intended to hand it in for safekeeping, I kept it all night on the assumption that some baddie might have one.

When four brave struggle heroes attacked St James church 1993 one of the congregation who returned fire was enough to make them turn tail and flee.
That individual saved a lot of lives.

I feel that signs proclaiming gun free zones are an invitation to attack.

I actually heard the General this morning saying that "a Clerk had no business carrying a gun and this needs to be investigated"

All good and well but who is he to say someone should not be carrying a gun. The police should take more care into who they employ to begin with. Any person could have been carrying the gun and shooting his colleagues. No matter what roll they play in the police. EMPLOY THE RIGHT FK'NG PEOPLE FOR THE FORCE FFS!

A clerical worker going postal isn't your typical criminal behaviour and I pretty much think that police stations are known to be gun zones. That was in response to BOFH's comment about problems being 'solved' with guns.

And why can't a clerk carry a firearm? If he has the license and the competency, he is fully entitled to.

The point is, as you rightly say, about the right people in the job.

Sorry. I wasn't having a go at you.
It was just a way of expressing contempt for the idea of gun free zones in general.

RE. Pitbull -I actually heard the General this morning saying that "a Clerk had no business carrying a gun and this needs to be investigated"

One of the reports mentioned that the weapon was capable of holding 15 rounds which indicates a SAPS issued Beretta Z88.
I doubt the general would know a Beretta if someone shoved it where the sun don't shine.
