Johannesburg - Police fired rubber bullets at protesting police reservists in Johannesburg on Monday, Johannesburg metro police said.

Spokesperson Inspector Edna Mamonyane said police opened fire on them with rubber bullets when the reservists failed to obey and instruction to disperse.

Reservists were protesting over their integration into the South African Police Service.

Mamonyane said some of the reservists were arrested for participating in an illegal march.

"As the metro police, we did not issue a permit for the march, the march is illegal," she said.

The police were not available for comment.

Ja, I saw it... I had to go to the licensing department.
Typical day in Joburg.
Also saw the lady at the licensing desk taking bribes and putting the money in her purse in full view of everyone in the queue.

Come on people, this sort of thing doesn't only happen in South Africa. You're a negative nancy if you think that! Oh, and crime is down since 1994! :D :p

no crime in SA, no one take bribes. We have a most efficient and effective police force. Our polices are the most clean and no corruption around the world. anc is the most wonderful, clean highly effective, non racist and no corruption party, no one single instance ever happened.

US and UK are the worse countries around the world. N. Korea and zim are our best examples, we do salute to our honourable world partners ......

Well according to SABC news last night, the protesters hurled rocks and bricks at the police/metro, so they got what they deserved ;)

Agreed

I heard the protesting reservists were "grade D" and were appointed without having to conform with the usual minimum requirements applied for "grade A" reservists (ie matriculated, employed, pass psychometric test etc & didn't have to go through the usual training). Apparently "someone" needed to bolster police numbers to keep FIFA happy for SWC.
So now you have under-educated, unqualified idiots running around in uniforms (hopefully none were issued with weapons) and protesting for pay :(

Any truth to these rumours?

More than likely true, I would quite happily take a shotgun to these idiots as they bring all reservists into disrepute
