THE Empangeni Public Order Policing (POP) unit and city SAPS members are mourning the death of Constable Musa Mdlalose (30), who was gunned down in a hail of bullets on Monday night.

Reports indicate that Mdlalose was shot at least eight times in a hijacking incident at his home at Umhlanga Reserve near Ngwelezana.

King Cetshwayo SAPS Cluster Communications Officer, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said the hijacking occurred at around 8:30pm on Monday.

‘Constable Mdlalose was at home when his wife phoned him to open the gate as she was close by.

"hot at least eight times "

Sounds more like a hit, not a botched hijacking.

Rest in peace, brother. Commiserations to his widow.

RIP, thank you for your service and sorry the government has failed you and all other honest South Africans.

Why do I get the impression (based on the media) that KZN is one of the worst provinces as far as contact crime is concerned? We know that crime stats are a lottery, so we cannot reliably use them.
Is KZN really the worst province, or is it just that the media report on contact crime more often?

Constable Mdlalose was described to the ZO as a quiet and humble person who loved his job.

‘He joined Empangeni POP because he wanted to restore peace to society.

‘It is regrettable that we have lost a colleague, friend and a brother at such a young age,’ said Captain Mdlalose.

Constable Mdlalose would have celebrated his 31st birthday next month.

Clearly a message to police members who refuse to turn a blind eye to crime.

We will never truly know as the government has not prioritised real crime collection stats (nor crime prevention for that matter). But yes it would seem in KZN we are under siege to a potentially greater, more brutal level of violent crime. KZN = Possibly large/larger provincial population, largely rural, largely un/under-educated, largely unemployed, customs and traditions of a violent brutal background, and so forth.

Also important not to forget that after crack units like the Cato Manor unit that was disbanded for political reasons a few years ago, violent crime skyrocketed in greater Durban area. They had a network of informants enabling them to tackle many crimes before they even happened just based on tip-offs from their network alone. There are large numbers of political assassinations, syndicates and gangs backed and protected by different political factions, significant numbers of SAPS members actively involved in committing crimes. So politics and corruption are massive contributing factors in KZN.

I agree 100% with what you have said here , there is no will or leadership to sort the problem out .
Political cronies are running the crime in this province .

Why would you say that?

Her calling the husband to open the gate. Let's assume for a second he did it for her daily. If she wanted him killed, that would have been the opportune time to do it. When someone is shot so many times, there is emotions involved. It's called Passion killing. So I assume she had a boyfriend who was the trigger man, planned this attack on the husband with the wife and they knew exactly when he'll be where and then make it looks like a robbery gone south. Simple really.

Don't you think because he was a policeman, they assumed he could possible be armed and in panic mode, decided to shoot him so many times?

How would a random hijacker know the husband is a policeman?

How do you know they were random hijackers? These people don't just decide, here's a car lets hijack it. They do their homework properly before they act and that involves following up on you days before the actual act, figuring out your pattern.

House robbery maybe. Not hijacking.

Not saying this is not the case as you mention. But it's very unlikely. Cars are spotted and filled to order. They driver around, find a car on the road and then at the first opportunity hijack it. They don't ambush you. It's highly unlikely. It's way more plausible that the wife is involved.

@Pitbull You make lots of assumptions .... I don't have a problem with that, however sometimes is better to stop tipping and look around, otherwise you might end-up saying things you don't believe yourself. Reasoning is a funny thing. It can take you places you don't want to go to ....

Don't get what you saying. You do know how investigation work right. You go with the most plausible and likely suspects then work your way outwards. The most plausible scenario here is that it was a hit given various factors. I could be 100% wrong and completely off the mark. Doesn't make the most plausible scenario any more relevant.

The wife is involved...
Yip it's weird that in the hail of bullets the wife walks away unscathed and it was her vehicle.Could be a life insurance job.

She needed him outside with the gates open, prior to her arriving to make it work. Usually you rock up and hoot for someone to open.
