i would like either of 2 things to happen in 2010

1 we make the world cup, but then many tourists are murdered and raped, giving the rest of the world the true picture of south africa

2 we dont make the world cup and the rest of the world can see what a joke our gov is

I would prefer a third option where the gov gets their **** together, and we pull off an awesome world cup - then everyone wins.

im sorry but in the last 5 years my attitude has become very negative towards anything our gov tackles

look at our schools, municipalities, hospitals, telecommunications, etc...

I personally hope that the WC is a smooth ride. Yes our government is crappy but YOU CAN LEAVE (i.e. get away from the problem). I think he meant SA not being ready to host the WC and it turning into a shambles rather than the football team qualifying for it... or did I misunderstand you?

Even if it is a mess up and the whole world sees it, what difference will it make to us? Will the government all of a sudden decide that, now the world has seen that they're useless, they'll improve?

I think the only time our government is interested in what the developed world's opinion is of Africa is when they want a handout.

I wonder how much it takes to wish failure upon your own country but yes leaving is a fantastic option for those who are "fed-up".

You must realize that to some people their country is nothing more than the place they were born and have no emotional attachment to it.

Also not everyone that wants to leave can and perhaps not everyone who wishes for the current government to fail wishes to leave. Maybe they just want change.

when will they learn? probaly once the white element has been beridden and there is no more food nor clean water left, then they will stick out their hand and say help us, its because of apartheid this happened.

Lets not go down this road again. Its too well travelled and doesn't lead anywhere...

Exactly, those without an emotional attachment can go, they are probably a liability to the efforts of prospering the country. As for change the positive changes we've seen since 1994 are unprecedented in this country's history.

And then? We're still waiting. Lots of talk - lots of laws, lots of paper filing - but no ACTION (except reinforcement of the notion of non-caring, corruption and crime.)

I feel sorry for them and us. Memory and attention is short. What happened to all the greats?!
