What is your average upload speed with rain's 5G service, please post a screenshot if you can and your location (maybe the nearest town, for an approx guess?)

I want to give them a go, but 5G with horrible upload is not worth it, ie will then rather get expensive fiber from vumatel.

I would go for the fibre if you can - for 1k you should be able to get 100/100 with better latency and a proper public facing IP

I've got both fibre and Rain 5G, the latter as a backup. I've only had to use it once so far. It really isn't a replacement for fibre. Fibre is worth every cent.

Reading this -- surely this is ilegal, how can they expect me to know if the service is working without using the device?

from their terms, hidden deep in their website

Returns and Refunds16.3.1 If you are not satisfied with the unlimited 5G for home package, you may cancel:
16.3.1.1 within one month from delivery of the Device by contacting the Rain Contact Centre to arrange for the return of the Device/s in exchange for a full refund at no charge, provided:

16.3.1.1.1 it is undamaged and unused, with the original labels and stickers still attached;

So I cannot get a refund then, because they encourage me to test it which violates their refund terms

Added to this:

16.3.3Ownership of the Device is and remains with Rain at all times and thus:
16.3.3.1 You are advised to insure the Device for any damage or theft whilst it is in your possession;

Nope, screw this, I'll go the Fiber route.

I asked the rep this. Pay, get the device delivered, test it and if it doesn't work cancel within five days for a full refund.

They need to change their terms before I buy, otherwise, I don't have a legal leg to stand on.

The router Rain use is customized by Rain themself to suit their network (this is a easy explaination as Im not sure about the technical stuff).
The 5G routers is also quite expensive. Thus they are limiting their liability for any damages, which from a business side makes quite sense.

Edit:
The unused part of the T&C is quite confusing as it does not fit in with the rest of that clause. You cannot reasonable expect a consumer make a judgement on how the service is working without using the equipment supplied.
So it does not make any sense that 'unused' is even included there.

No thanks, based on the above.

If you can get fibre, go for it. 1-10ms local pings and presumably guaranteed speeds (whatever you end up signing up for).

Perhaps it points to reasonable wear and tear, e.g. there are guys who have mounted the unit outside and so it would be somewhat weather weared.... But yes clarity is needed

Download is usually 280Mbps down but right now is peak so 20:39 but my upload is always rock solid 65+

Wow, I have no service currently actually all day long. No service... Can't even enter google.com

The highest I ever got on Rain is 90mb download 70mb upload
Been truly disappointed at rain since I practically begged my family for it.

Some people have good speeds and others not. Depends on the range, topography, and congestion to your tower.

Then you also don't know if that tower has been commissioned correctly.

If you have fibre in your area, rather put your bucks in that. Avoid rain if you love your peace.

averaged uploaded of about 100 to 105 when i had it. In cape town

From my experience, early morning you get advertised speeds, as day goes on speed tanks.
So by evening the speeds are at best disappointing.
Then the weekend rolls in - and speeds goes for a ball of s%^#
So if you want to do some streaming to watch movies after hours - its useless.
Gaming after hours - useless as the speeds and pings is horrible, ping spikes over 1000ms

Uploads range from 0.1 to mid 50's - 50's early morning 0.1 evening

For work - most days is good enough and it got me through lock down.
It was a life saver as there was no fiber here.

Looking back - if fiber was available - I would have gone fiber even if it was double the price.

The amount of issues with 5G is not worth it, been in contact with RAIN since April this year, and they trying their best and the help has been great, they coming out again today for the 3rd time, been in contact with just about every one there up and down the food chain - but with all that problem is still there :-(
So if this was a solvable problem, think they would have solved it by now.
Its not signal - plenty signal, not distance to tower (580m and 990m both same issue), not CPE on my 3rd CPE - still same issue.

I believe their infrastructure cant handle the load, that is why early mornings I get over 300Mbps, as the day rolls on, more and more people start using it, so speed starts dropping. After 5 when everyone is home, and over weekends its over loaded.

Hey I might be wrong - maybe they prove me wrong - but I am just saying what I am seeing.

Attached speed test - Sunday 20 Sep - 19:15 - Paying for premium - getting sub ADSL speeds - kids are unhappy, cant play games, cant watch youtube, I cant watch a movie - and its OK as its is covered under best effort service.

Are you using a router only or router with an external antenna?

Just wondering if you're stuck with RAIN and you don't have an antenna that might be an option to try.

This is 5G outdoor CPE - there is no external antenna, the CPE is the antenna
First RAIN team that was here positioned it on a 6m pole on the roof(about 15m from ground level), any higher and I have to start adding a beacon lights so the planes can avoid it
