While a tearful Pollock told the nation he was sorry to go, Symcox believes the selection policy employed by coach Mickey Arthur — which saw the 34-year-old miss the Test series against Pakistan and New Zealand — pushed him to the decision.

Symcox claimed he could not understand the thinking behind the selection and believes Pollock was treated badly.

"He was chosen in May last year as the South African player of the year, but in October his contract at Cricket South Africa was downgraded from A+ to A status," Symcox told South African newspaper Sondag.

Also

He had an average of more than 40 in the last 12 Tests and his bowling average was less than 18.

My thoughts exactly.

My take on it:

Polly: If Dale, Makhaya, Andre & Morne are all fit will i make the England tour?

Mickey/Jourbert: Yes, you will get to play in some warm up games

Polly: Ok, I'm retiring & going to earn big bucks playing in the IPL & county cricket

Well good on Polly. I hope that he joins the IPL and does well for himself. Somebody of his quality certainly doesn't deserve the treatment that he's received from Mickey Mouse and company.
