Polo Door Wont Unlock

Hi, I have a 2005 Polo with a bit of a problem. Since Saturday I cannot open the passenger door.

The knob pops up when I unlock the car, but both the inside and outside handles wont open the door.

I obviously cant open the door panel to look at the mechanism as the screws to take off the panel can only be accessed with the door open.

Any ideas?
 
Sounds like your central locking is playing up. Very common on VW's. My golf 4 did the same on the drivers door, it wouldn't pop up far enough to allow me to open the door. Had to push the button and straight away pull on the handle and it would open. It may be a broken central locking pipe. Not sure how DIY friendly this is to fix.

Had the same thing with my Golf yonkers ago.

I enabled the "kiddie lock" for some arb reason back then, can't remember why. Then, a few months later, I couldn't open the door from outside either.

The guys who stole that car must've cussed and grumbled a lot :D
 
Very expensive if you need a new lock from dealer. Rear door lock for 2005 Polo ~R2500 and ~R1000 for fitting. Passenger lock might even be more expensive. Good luck. Google the problem and you might find a solution. Found one for my problem.
 
Had the same issue with my grandmas Jetta 3 a while ago. Took it to our local auto electrician and he fixed it for less than R200. Did not even bother to go to VW cause they would have charged the same price as a new car to fix it.
 
Just for the record, I went to a locksmith, and an auto electrician. Both of them told me that they could try fix it, but they "Could not guarantee that they wouldn't break the door panel trying to get it off"

It wasnt a risk I was willing to take with these guys so having no other options I took it to VW. It came to roughtly R1100 for the part and R1000 for labour, so R2100 in total.

Not too bad considering even the locksmith wanted to charge R750 labour if I could get the part from VW.

Anyone else agree that cars are deliberately over-engineered to increase maintenance costs?
 
2100 for what ?

my lock broke on my citi golf once and was a mission for the mechanic to go through the pillar to get it opened but about r200 later it was fixed
 
OP, you should have taken the car to Nyanga shopping centre and watched from a distance. Once the experts were done, walk up to them and give them a 6-psck for their effort.
