I would suggest an independent adjudicator perform the test on the highveld.
I am so confident that any PGTi driver will be able to pull away from a Type R that I suggest someone, anyone test these two cars head to head.
 
The polo gti with the TSI motor? Or the older one?

What happened to your confidence that a GTI will slam an RS? :)

Too hard to find a RS. But my confidence still stands. Apparently their 0 - 100 times are similar? But lets stay on topic.
 
I think the Polo GTI will be quicker.
Type Rs struggle here in jhb.

Well it is 147kW and 0 - 100 in 6 seconds compared to 110kW and 0 - 100 in 8 seconds...
Its not always fair to race turbo vs NA but in this case does the Type R lose out soooo much on the highveld or the Polo just stronger than the ratings its been given?

actually the honda is rated at 6.6....but its nice to see you are starting to take stats into account

Can't help myself...

A bit of both, most likely. VTEC Hondas suffer terribly at altitude because they are high-revving, low-torque by design. And we've already discussed elsewhere that VW aren't always particularly honest with their published power outputs.

Take the fight to sea-level and the results would be quite predictable.
 
Polo GTI will be ahead at highveld - reverse at sea level though.

Type R is extremly sluggish up here

100,000km is a bit optimistic. :D

Show me any Slopel that's lasted 300,000km +. I can show you many VW's that are running well into the 300k mark.
 
A VW can last for 500,000km, it just needs 5 engines and 5 gearboxes to get there. Oh, and a driver that does not mind being seen in in a POS.
 
Roux, why not start a "GM is awesome" thread and keep your ramblings about everything pro-GM and anti-VW to that thread? Are you afraid that you will be the only one posting there?
