Polo hatch 2011 brake shudder, multiple disc replacements

to all that are having trouble with this, i had the same issue, unfortunately i do brake hard and late. the original ATE are very sensitive and tend to warp even with a little heat or even a small splash of water, to keep costs down and to be environmentally friendly they are made from recycled materials. i had my discs changed under warranty several times, after hearing the same sad line "the problem has been fixed" from multiple dealers i decided to do it myself, i found the solution, Try ferodo discs and safeline pads, works like a charm. you can brake as you like with no chance of warp. with the added bonus that the safeline pads are asbestos free so they dont leave that crappy residue on your mags. hope this helps. i did mine at 30k am now sitting at 62k no problems at all

If you know you have a problem like this, FIX IT! :mad:

Late braking is for the track, and that is the only place it should be practised!
 
My mother's automatic VW Polo 560000km which she drives slowly has repeatedy had brake shudder after disk and pad replacement and she keep getting the run around as well. It is obvious from all the posts that this is a common problem with these cars and not a coincidence which certainly begs some sort of recourse or even a recall from VW. Has anyone any good suggestions or had any come back that is helpfull to finally resolve this ongoing issue?

I have the same problem on my 2014 VW Polo Vivo. No one can tell me what causes the problem. Not even the Uitenhage factory. I got a call this morning from VW to say that it now falls under 'maintenance' and that it essentially is my baby now. I bought the car new, and 9 months later to this day, have brake shudder, which seems to occur every 9 months or ~10000 km. Plain stupid.

I don't believe it's your wheels, the manufacturer has admitted defective discs are in circulation. Check your warranty on bigger wheels though, i'm sure they'll try and avoid liability and tell you that your wheels are the cause.

Hi Carbon, I have just recently got a similar problem with the shuddering of my brakes. They say its my fault however it started a week after buying the 2nd hand mastercar from Barons with a mastercars 2 year extended warranty. Do you perhaps have any proof or record of VWSA admitting to the defective disks in circulation. Also did the mention any part numbers of the defective disks? Trying to find out if mine fall under that before they charge me an arm and a leg. Many thanks

If so then you are within your rights to return a defective product in this case, the car, to the dealer and they have to correct any issues
 
We have a Polo Vivo 2012 model since new and have replaced disks and pads once every 12-18 months. Apparently there are some disks that lasts longer, but we have yet to find them.

Have you ever bought aftermarket as it looks like OEM might be the issue?

I had a completely different brand of car with a similar issue. On the small chance that it does help someone figure out a problem, get your wheel hubs checked.

I bought a second hand Sirion that in hindsight probably had a rough life before it came my way. Shortly after taking delivery, brake shudder appeared. A lot of pain and fighting later, it turns out someone had welded something on one of the hubs, which mean the disc wasn't sitting flush with it, which is why it warped.

I was stupid back then. The dealer ended up refusing to help in the end. I went somewhere else, and paid a lot of money, and wasted a lot of time getting it sorted out. Don't do what I did. Be a pain in the ass with the dealer. They sold it to you, they must fix it.

We did last year - I'm not sure about the make, but our non-agent mechanic bought and installed it. These lasted now for 14 months. Will shop around a bit for the ones we install now.
 
fit a set of power brake disks ;) Problem solved

Goldwagen will have some good options and way cheaper than the agents.

Yeah I went into the dealership yesterday and they just gave me the run around. Not sure what to do next. The sale manager said they approve disk with 2mm left when they do inspections. Ive asked to see a copy of the 80pt inspection report that they so prooudly boast.
 
a Friend had a bakkie with the same problem, the dealer replace some of the strut arms with a new type, and problem was solve.
But today I will agree with the champ. post 49

For anyone interested, VWW NTT Stellenbosch did the replacement because VW Barons Tygerberg admitted telephonically of the fault. Hope you guys come right.
 
Wifes vivo had a similar issue. Went through 3 sets of discs during 4 years ownership. 2013 Vivo. But discs are really cheap so wasnt an issue for me

Geez I don't think discs are cheap at all! Did you skim or replace the discs?

I would never skim discs if there is shudder, hardly ever resolves the problem. Rather replace because seeing there's a good chance the skim wouldn't resolve the issue, you'll be back to square one after the expense and need to replace with new discs anyway and the labour is the same for the 2 jobs, so rather put the money that they charge to skim towards new aftermarket discs.
