Ricky Ponting has announced his retirement from international Twenty20 cricket in a bid to extend his Test and ODI playing career. Ponting will retain the captaincy of Australia's Test and one-day sides and Michael Clarke is expected to take the reins of the Twenty20 outfit, although a formal decision on Ponting's successor has not yet been made.

 Don't players usually retire from Tests to concentrate on ODIs and T20s?:p

This seems stupid LOL

You retire from 5 days and ODI because it is so long, you do not retire from 20/20 the shortest version of the game :D.

That is like ryan giggs saying he is retiring from 10 minute soccer matches to concentrate on the 90 minute ones, i mean WTF?

He is still doing domestic T20s and the IPL, and only retiring from T20 internationals. So he will miss maybe 5 games a year:p.

Think he is doing this to give the younger guys a chance and to add that extra 5 matches rest. Also ponting has shown and said that he prefers Test to ODI and ODI to Pro 20.

IPL he is doing for the $$$$

In tests you have 5 days to make good on a poor decision - in a T20 you've got less than 4 hours.
