AUSSIE cricket captain Ricky Ponting is at the centre of a Warney-style cover-up – but this time it has nothing to do with bookies or sexcapades.

Photos taken at the International Cricket Council's Cricketer Of The Year Awards on Monday night show the batsman, who was up until recently battling baldness, now sporting more grass on his pitch. A good dye job perhaps?

Or something more permanent? Yesterday the smart money was on Ricky having raided Shane Warne's stash of spare vouchers for Advanced Hair Studio – after all the writing was already on the wall as far as the spin king was concerned.

Asked last year who would be the next cricketer to sign on with AHS, Warney said "without doubt Ricky Ponting". If true, the captain has nothing to be ashamed of – he is, after all, just following a long cricketing hair replacement tradition that ranges from zany Australian spin bowler Greg Matthews to former England captain Graham Gooch.

Ricky's manager Sam Halverson was last night keen to keep his client's hair-raising experience under his hat. "We do not comment on business or personal matters," he told Qconfidential.

:D

Everyone knows that a man's baldness is his source of strength. Ponting gets the weave, and Australia promptly lose to Zimbabwe. I'm not so sure that you can put that down to "just coincidence".

Discrimination.

Why do you think all of these hair replacement things are advertised by cricketers? Think of Ponting, Warne, Shaun Pollock, Garth Le Roux, Clive Rice - once they'd finished playing cricket and didn't need their awesome strength anymore, only then did the turn to the HRT.
