Hi all, have been having really lousy ADSL response in the Lonehill area for about 6 weeks. It's completely erratic with pings ranging from 57 ms to 900 ms, and download speeds from 0 to 40 kbps (this using the Speedtest.net test to a server in Capetown). Quite often get complete timeouts, especially during the working day. Have reported to TELKOM twice and the tech. comes out, does some tests, prounounces that it's all fixed and goes away. I have the DSL Faster service from TELKOM , who are also my ISP. Router is Mega 100.
Are there any know problems in this area? Any advice?

They love to do that. Let the next idiot know that you're no fool when it comes to what you should be getting in terms of your ADSL service. Print out your router stats (attenuation, SNR etc.) and shove 'em in his face if need be. How do these look by the way? If they're bad, check them again before he leaves. That way you can point out that he's fixed nothing if this is the case. These fools love to pretend they're experts and that customers are computer illiterate. Then, they go away and have a sleep in their van somewhere and, if you're lucky, they come back and tell you everything's sorted.

Sorry, I really don't have any real solutions for you. This is Telkom we're dealing with here, after all. I do know that Lonehill is generally problematic though. All I can say is be persistent. Bug the hell out of 'em 'til they do something!

There seems to be a lot of these issues all over the country since about 2-4 weeks ago.

Perhaps RPM's team can get some qualification from Telkom?

I have exactly the same problem. The only difference is that I have a Mega 200 router and I live a few kilometers away in Honeydew Ridge. I also logged a fault with Telkom and they promised to send a technician, who I fear may be lost somewhere in the area, as he/she has not turned up yet. But I digress.

The ADSL speeds are really slow and I cannot even get to read my Gmail at the best of times. I have resorted to using my MTN 3G card, meant for when I am travelling, at home full time.
