Poor reception :(

Hey guys,

I live in Table View and have my modem plugged into my desktop PC. I have been getting shockingly bad speeds and often no connection at all (0.6kb/s!!!! WTF!). The software defaults to EDGE all the time too.

I know it's not the modem since I've used it at home on my girlfriends laptop and it flys. Forgive my ignorance but is there some setting on my PC that could be interfering with the signal? Any body else in Table View (Koeberg Road side) experiencing problems? Suggestions?

What is your signal strength (RSSI) in dBm?
In the Cell C Connection manager, go to Tools, then Diagnostics and click on the Network Status tab.

Have a look through this thread, you might be able to force your modem to '3G Only', but bear in mind that if there is no 3G signal you won't be able to connect at all until you change it to '3G Preferred'.

If you have a USB - USB extension, it might help to move the modem around!!!!

Just a quick update...

I bought a USB extension which seemed to work at first and then caused havoc with my PC. USB ports wouldn't work and Cell C software kept crashing. Holy crap. Ball ache.

Anyway it seems to be working now without the extension cable. Not great speeds (avg. 1.5mbps). But it'll have to do.
