Poor Service from Zeekonline t/a Zeek Tech&Gadgets

Bought a Sony Xperia Z3 from Zeek Tech&Gadgets from their website zeekonline.co.za 3 months ago. My phone is now bent and ZeekOnline say that because it wasn't bent when I received it, it must be my fault. Really? I paid almost R9000 for the phone. It has been in a case since I bought it and I always keep it in a loose pocket of my outer garment. Their supplier wont replace the phone and they won't refund the money I paid for the phone. I found other online reports of bent Z3's so I figure I am not the only one whose phone has bent in this way. Must be a phone problem that allows the phone to be bent. Remember Applegate?

To make matters worse, just realised that their website does not have any contact details other than an email address. No landline number, mobile number or address (physical or postal). Buyers beware. The phones are cheap but if you have an issue with their grey import, you may not have any luck talking to them. You will have to email them and wait for them to get back to you. There are other online retailers who probably deserve our custom more than these guys.

Update on my dealings with Zeek. Supplier denies that the phone is defective. Zeek have offered to have it repaired at their cost but....

The phone was collected from me on 5th January. No address or phone number listed for Zeek on the waybill! The phone is now apparently with the suppliers who are apparently trying to source parts for the repair. Zeek can give me no indication when my phone will be repaired at all. Unbelievably, still no other contact details for Zeek except an email address.

I think anyone looking to buy a phone from Zeek should be forewarned. I have purchased many items on line before but this is the first time I am in this situation. Granted, you are purchasing grey imports. However, maybe that is another reason not to buy from Zeek.

So did you learn your lesson about buying from"too good to be true" shops?

You wouldn't have had these issues paying a little more through official channels.

How did your phone bend?

I'd also like to know that. From your OP it looks like the phone bent afterwards. So you either had 3 months of pain negotiating with them because it was bent on arrival, or your phone bent way after you got it?

It is illegal to have an ecommerce website without contact details.
The fact that you bought from them in the first place is a big NO NO.
Regardless if you need their contact details, contact payfast - they will have them, same as Afrihost and same as the courier company - if you check the waybill it should have the delivery info online and if not ring the couriers up.
You can notify both Afrihost and Payfast that they are breaching their terms by not running a legal website.

ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS AND TRANSACTIONS ACT 25 OF 2002

Information to be provided

43.
(1) A supplier offering goods or services for sale, for hire or for exchange by way of an electronic transaction must make the following information available to consumers on the web site where such goods or services are offered:
(a) Its full name and legal status;
(b) its physical address and telephone number;

This is a common problem.You probably sat on it.Do you wear skinny jeans?

So you bought a phone from them at a good price and it bent a few months later?

If I buy a car and accidentally drive it into a wall, I wonder if I could just demand a refund from the dealership :p

The phone bent after I started using it. Unfortunately for the seller and supplier, I do not wear skinny pants. I wear a khurta all the time. This is the long loose robe that Muslim men sometimes wear, similiar to the one below:

No way that the phone bent in my pockets as the pockets are loose. From my research, it appears to happen when extremely thin phones heat up during use and/or charging. Not unique to my phone so it is an issue with thin phones in general.

As for buying from them without having their full contact details is something I never should have done. I just never picked up that there were no contact details other than an email address until it was too late. That's the point of my posting here. They seem to promote themselves heavily on this forum (no bidorbuy, gumtree or other presence) so I want to warn others to be careful when dealing with Zeek. Be warned.

As for my phone, apparently supplier has just sourced the parts to repair the phone. Still no word on when my phone will get back to me.

UPDATE: Out of the blue, Zeek have decided to offer me an exchange or a refund. Took the refund immediately. The story is that my phone was damaged during the attempted repair so now I can have my money back. Still haven't given me their contact details and I doubt that they will give that to anyone. Until they do, despite the refund, I won't be buying from them again.

I know this is an old thread but I think zeek offers excellent service and prices. I have bought 4 devices from them of which 1 was faulty. The phone turned off at about 70%. I contacted Zawaad explained over email what the issue was and all he requested was that I send the phone back. He even arranged and paid for that shipping. Sent me a replacement and that was that. Yes, a phone number would be great but he usually responds to emails in 30 minutes, so either way I was not worried. Further to this, yes, it is a Grey import. But you should know the risks of Grey imports before buying.
