Anyone else experiencing slower than normal speeds, normally I get about 3-4 bars in the Sunninghill area but for most of this afternoon I'm down to 2 bars and speeds are almost half of what I'm used to - from 100-120Kb to about 50-60Kb ?

I'm quite near to you and I've been having issues as well. My connection speeds have been fluctuating alot lately although I still have full signal strength most of the time. I think Neotel are in the middle of a tower upgrade. Maybe it's in preparation for the introduction of Rev A devices later this year.

Have'nt being doing much downloads this week-end but I was sure on Sunday I got around 90+Kb - either way I think I need to call them tomorrow and get an answer.

Same my side, between 300-500 kbps most of the time, especially during the day. I complain as i used to get 1200-1500 kbps but the only response i get is it is within the average speeds and therefore acceptable. I also have a consistant 4 bars at all times.

Bugger!!! I get 3 bars 300-600 ... wish they would put up the next towers as I'm on the border of their signal.... I'm happy just with 500 and your moaning.

Orange-noise causing slower download speeds ?

I know most of us are in at least a high white-noise environment or a place with some kind of disturbance, I am saying this because I have noticed my number of bars drop from what used to be 4 too 3. I managed to fix my bar strength problems by turning my Lite device sideways almost 90' Angle with the antenna pointed almost directly at the base station. Yeah it's a little akward but heck thats what we have prestic and cellotape for I guess ;) Also we have to double check how Neotel are actually giving us the signal

There are three ways to spread the bandwidth of the signal:
* Frequency hopping. The signal is rapidly switched between different frequencies within the hopping bandwidth pseudo-randomly, and the receiver knows before hand where to find the signal at any given time.
* Time hopping. The signal is transmitted in short bursts pseudo-randomly, and the receiver knows beforehand when to expect the burst.
* Direct sequence. The digital data is directly coded at a much higher frequency. The code is generated pseudo-randomly, the receiver knows how to generate the same code, and correlates the received signal with that code to extract the data. - ref: http://www.bee.net/mhendry/vrml/library/cdma/cdma.htm

I know we can get antenna's R1300 and build your own for much less to get better signal clarity. I already signed a contract and am definately not going to spend extra money when the company could offer additional products or services while locked in the duration of our contract. I think at the moment Neotel are probably still Frequency and Time Hopping and will only switch onto Direct Sequence with the introduction of the Rev A series. I think that explains why we are getting alot of fluctuation in signal bar strength and quality. Noise figures and disturbances must be minimized to enhance our signal clarity basically, so even a something like a SAW filter for us users battling with intermittent signal strength/clarity would surely make an improvement in signal clarity and signal strength.- ref: http://www.eetasia.com/ART_8800410027_499488_NP_46e7daab.HTM

Personally I would keep calling them, eventually they get hold of the actual technicians that are responsible for your nearest point of contact base station. Hopefully they are able to have some influence in how they actually broadcast the signal to us. I have made quiet a few calls and can tell you that Neotel have come to the party on this occassion.

I get 157 kbps (19.6 KB/sec transfer rate) / Bandwidth Monitor Pro normally averages mostly around 20KB/s <-- thats downloading http and with torrents etc.. I get the odd occassional spikes of 40-60 KB/s so for what I am paying for I am well and truly satisfied.

I also keep in mind that Neotel would need to constantly fine tune the various Base Stations to get the ratio of generated power and transmitted signal in a balance. Neotel is still basically in a testing stage with each new Base Station that they erect as they have to balance across the whole spectrum. Maybe they are still fixing out-of-band signal power problems aswell.

Ultimatetly we need to keep nagging Neotel call centre agents and technicians and make sure that for now they;
1. Work on ways and solutions in satisfying our signal strength and clarity.
1.1 Free Antenna's with contract customers.
1.2 Noise Filters (SAW Filters)
1.3 Consider Making Prime Device Units the New Lite Package when Rev A Excedes Prime.
2. Commit to their side by making sure they are keeping up with International CDMA technology standards as cost should not be an issue but rather that of consistent quality service.

lol reach for stars touch the sky philosophy aye* Hope you guys get your speeds what you used to have back @ rtzouves, nk1, orin76 and others. Let's see what happens in a month or two with the arrival of the so awaited Rev A Series.

I'm not far from Sunninghill - about 5km's away. I am getting 3-4 bars signal strength, download speeds on some days have been fluctuating. But mostly still around the 180 - 200KB/s mark.

For me, I have never had it this good. Maybe they are working on the tower. If they are, they really should post a notice or something that you might be affected!

They seem to have a lot of problems. Im in woodmead with 4 bars and i get 180kb/s average!! At home in paulshof I get 40kb/s average and I'm not able to connect at least 40% of the time. And they guaruntee 300kb/s? I dont think so.

I phoned and they asked me to send them "logs". After sending them a nice long email showing everything I was told they would get back to me. This was a week ago.. I really would like to work with them to solve this and not fight! Lets hope we all get this sorted soon!!!

Just called them now, they will investigate and get back to me.
