Ok so the PCH-C200 arrived on Tuesday to much excitement :)

It was picked up at the factory in Shenzhen - China, People's Republic by DHL Friday September 18, 2009 21:33 and got to Cape Town Sunday September 20, 2009 18:05 (under 2 days) but was then stuck with DHL/Customs clearance for a day and a half.

I never paid any duty only VAT and DHL processing fee (about R70 i think) so the whole thing cost around R3,500.

BTW PCH use the International Trade Customs tariff number : 8517620090 "Other apparatus for the transmission or reception of voice, images or other data, including apparatus for communication in a wired or wireless network (such as a local or wide area network)".

Which is 0% duty in SA.

Now to get to grips with it.

MrSmith, wow dude, that is frikken awesome!!!! R3500! That is starting to sound much better than the R5k+ that I was expecting.

But please do us the honor and give us your first impressions once you've played with it a bit. Mind you, after the backlashing that came after the Mede8er first impressions from Kleine Fische in another thread, I would understand if you decide not to do so. :)

I might even be as forward as to ask you if I can come around to test drive myself. :p

But congrats on your new toy and I hope you enjoy it very much. I hope it is as good as they say it is.

Yeah do not think i will be giving any reviews any time soon but if anybody has any specific questions they welcome to ask or search over at http://www.networkedmediatank.com/index.php

What i can say is that it is definitely not something that you just take out of the box and start using immediately besides if you just plug in a USB stick or USD HDD and just play content off that. If you just want that functionality i would rather recommend one of the cheaper RealTek players like the Mede8er or Xtreamer.

What i like about it is that is is so flexible on both the hardware and software side.

Have not had time to use it much yet but so far I have added a 500GB 2.5" internal hard drive for the NMT apps and video content and got the streaming working from my laptop with USB attached HDD in other room.

Streams large .mkv's over network no problem.
C-200 is hardwired to Netgear DG834N router with CAT6 and laptop is connected router via WiFi at around 130Mbps.

Also got the C-200 accessing itunes library on the laptop.

I went with the 2.5" drive as I plan to add a DVD or BD Rom drive at some point as i have now taken my DVD player out of the mix.

Plan to add a NAS later, maybe one of these went they become available http://forum.xtreamer.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2403

Also considering adding YAMJ http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/index.php/Yet_Another_Movie_Jukebox

You are welcome to pm me regarding that test drive ;)

Also got the C-200 accessing itunes library on the laptop.

Now this is an awesome feature to have. Would love to view my video podcasts on my TV instead. :)

Can you access your iTunes playlists too? I would imagine that you won't be able to play any DRM media (which I have none of), but as long as I can play music, videos, podcasts, etc from my iTunes library, I'd be very, very happy.

Not sure if it is capabile of this, but I'd like to stream music from iTunes to the C200. i.e. iTunes thinks that it is communicating to an AirPort Express. The power of iTunes comes in when you are able to control it with your iPhone/iPod Touch while you're standing around the braai with your mates.

MPC "Beta" review out http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21271

Basically the hardware rocks but the beta firmware is still has one or two issues (as with any new player) and the user interface is in need of a major update which is being worked on.

Word is that new firmware may be released in the coming week or certainly by mid October.

The C-200 is certainly not ready for prime time or the general consumers just yet and will most likely just frustrate any not tech savvy person that has not the time or the patience to fiddle with installing apps etc and reading the wiki/FAQ/guides etc over at http://www.networkedmediatank.com.

@ipodmm I have not experimented to much yet but is seems the music playback is very basic it can access the playlists but can not play more than one track at a time, basically you need to hit play for each track. See the review for more details.

shew, this thing sounds hectic, maybe a little too beefy, I'm considering the A-110 instead, or the Mede8er

just saw the a110 been out for over a year already, and with the chip upgrades in the c200, i think its going to be the best buy, c200 sounds like a mother of all media players.....where can I get one?

@ronnies - I got a 2,5" WD 500GB drive as I still wanted space to add a DVD or BD ROM. I got it from Computer Mania CPT CBD store for R1199, I guess you may get it a bit cheaper elsewhere. I wanted it same day so did not bother shopping around. I think I will be adding a NAS to my setup before long and considering the one xtreamer are launching soon.
