I have 2 very important questions.

1. Why is the movie popcorn tastier than homemade? Is there any special technique to achieve the same taste.

2. Is there popcorn seeds from sweetcorn kernels? How would this taste? Sweet ?
I notice the popcorn in American TV shows are always yellow.

It probably isn't at all, but external factors influence our perception and enjoyment of food. It is in all likelihood a perception issue, as movies jog good memories...

No, there is no popcorn made from sweetcorn. Those are called corn-cuts and are quite different...

The oil/butter combo they use has yellow food colouring to convince the eater that it is more buttery than it actually is. Perception again...;)

They do this so cut costs - they add butter-flavouring to oils with a small amount of butter added, and then call it popcorn butter or something to that effect. This keeps costs down as butter is expensive...

1 - Don't make microwave popcorn. And if you want to make it taste more like movie popcorn, add a crapload of canola oil and that special "movie salt" (contains MSG, salt and other preservatives, flavourants)

2 - Butter, or fake butter flavourants...

(EDIT - as an aside... take a hacksaw and saw an un-popped pack of microwave popcorn in half... then you won't want to eat microwave popcorn ever again.)

No... it's definitely better. I think it's that machine it gets made in it uses air convection instead of frying them. I always find homemade popcorn is a bit burnt and chewy vs air machine made.

Ah fuggedit I'm no DJ..

/sigh.

The GMO thing is another ball game. By normal I meant the way we normally make it at home- bit of hot oil in a pot or perhaps one of those hot air popcorn makers.

And yes we do still get non- GMO corn here although its becoming less and less prevalent unfortunately.

I find that movie popcorn is the best, then those ones you buy at spar etc and lastly homemade.... I can't make it like the other two.

That stale cold schite they sell? That microwave stuff is the worst ever.

Homemade is killer, think I'll go make some right now.

I have one :) Got it at PnP.

Doesn't taste as good as it does when you make it in the pan though :( It's a little dry, and the salt doesn't "stick" to it... just falls right off into the bottom of the dish.

That being said, good healthy alternative to oil and butter, and it does taste good (just not "as" good)
thanks

I also have one and agree with the popcorn being dry... I'm sure it's much healthier to make it this way though but of course healthy does not always equal tasty :D
