POPI and GDPR

I am looking to develop a new web application and it will store personal information of the users (name, surname, etc). If I implement GDPR standards across my application will this cover the POPI compliance as well?

Or are there another set of rules that won't be covered under the GDPR implementation?

There is a fair amount of overlap but POPI applies to Juristic persons as well. You would do well to look at the requirements for POPI too, don't just assume the GDPR will cover everything in POPI.
