Was anyone aware the regulators have been appointed?

"The National Assembly approved the appointment of members to the Information Regulator on 7 September 2016.
The Regulator will be responsible for education, monitor and enforce compliance, handle complaints, perform research and facilitate cross-border cooperation.

The following people were recommended: Adv Pansy Tlakula (chairperson), Adv Lebogang Stroom, and Johannes Weapond as full-time members. Prof Tana Pistorius and Sizwe Snail were recommended as part-time members. These recommendations were now referred to the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services and the final appointments will be appointed by the President.

Been on News sites every day yet I seem to have missed out on this one.

If this is finalized, and Zuma signs the appointment, the act should come into immediate effect. This was the only step that prevented the act from coming into effect.

Not the way I understand it. A few years back only some (irrelevant) sections where signed into law, but POPI as a whole has not received a commencement date and is AFAIK not "really effective". I do agree that with the appointment of the regulator it could very well happen within the next few months and I would expect that someone would announce a commencement date (which no media outlet will cover and we will eventually stumble over the announcement in the government gazette).

Once announced there will still be a year for implementation before the act becomes effective.

One step of many in what has turned out to be a very laborious process. At least I got to attend many free POPI seminars, which nice food, when it was all the rage back in 2014.
