I started getting porn emails and other unwanted and unsolicited emails after commencing using iBurst.

In February this year, I stopped connecting to iBurst when my ADSL was activated. After a period of daily deletion of the garbage emails, they stopped arriving in my WBS mailbox.

Some weeks ago, when Telkom as an ISP was not accessible due to continuous LCP down, I connected to iBurst so as to receive my emails for business purposes. While connected, there were numerous attempts by unknown entities to connect to my computer, but these were prevented by my firewall. When Telkom became usable again, I disconnected iBurst. After this, the garbage emails recommenced, being sent to the same WBS email address as before.

Has anyone else experienced unwanted and unsolicited email after using iBurst as an ISP?

I am disturbed by the fact that this rubbish stopped after I had not used iBurst for a long time, and started up again after I once again used iBurst.

i'm just guessing here but doesn't it perhaps indicate that iBurst's spam filters on their mail servers are less effective compared to other providers

Perhaps you got confused when signing up for e-mail newsletters from the PAWN site?

I have had the @wbs.co.za mail account with couple of aliases under which forward mails to my gmail account, never received anything

It may just be that your iBurst address was caught by some bot and added to spam lists?

I used to get spam on my dial-up, but nothing on my iBurst account.

Nothing here either. Been using the iburst (wbs) address for over 2 years - currently have it forwarded to my gmail addy. Nothing.

Guess I've been lucky. ;)

Same here, have never received any spam from my iBurst email address.
