Will someone who is tech-literate please explain to this dufus why I cannot use port 80 proxies for anon surfing? I have been told that it is because my ISP has port 80 as "transparrent". Whatever that might mean. Is it possible to make port 80 "non-transparrent" and if so, then how?
I will be very grateful for any kind assistance.

I am on homedsl512 and my ISP is Hellcom

No you cannot bypass transparent proxying...

To tell you how it works. Whenever the specific router that routes your main traffic notice a connection to a destination port 80, it redirects the connection to a specific proxy. So even if the connection on port 80 is not to a website, it still gets redirected to the ISP's proxy. Which pretty much makes the idea of using a different proxy useless. Your only hope would be to use a proxy which is not on port 80. There is no way to bypass this transparent redirection without hacking your isp's router, which in turn is probably impossible.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for the clarification and kind assistance Tinuva. ;)
So no use asking Hellcom do make an exception in my case Lol

Exactly you can get around it. Especially considering I have never seen a non-transparent proxy run on port 80 you have a good chance to get around it.

If you seen some major companies router passwords, you would not say that ;) But it is damn near improbable

DFantom, I am sorry, but it seems you do not understand something simple. Transparent proxying ONLY refers to connections made to destination port 80. Thus using a proxy on something else than port 80 is not really bypassing transparent proxying, but simply just using a destination port for which there is no transparent proxying.

AS for that, quite true, the transparent proxy could run on port 3128, but that doesnt make it transparent, what makes it transparent is the fact that the router takes a destination port 80 connection and re-route it to the proxy(forcing it to use the proxy).

But that is not what he asked, he asked if he could bypass transparent proxying to use port 80 proxies, which in fact is not really possible, because you first get routed to the capped proxy before you even connect to the proxy you want. In that case no, ofcoarse he can still use any other proxy that doesnt run on port 80.

DFantom, please may I ask that you first read the question asked properly before you just say what people said is wrong.

Vasb8, glad I could help you.

well there is a way of doing it!
however you would have to cascade through another proxy! so it would be pointless!

Ok ... I'm ready explain your logic

Um..duh?

Fair enough. I gave a solution to bypass a transparent proxy, and I didn't realise it had to be on port 80.

In theory it is possible. Never tried it with 2 web proxies, but using 1 web proxy it is possible to relay to another server. ie: Machine -> Web Proxy -> Mail Server. In theory the same would be possible to relay to a second web proxy and onwards.
And if for some reason you choose to think that I am talking **** then please look at this site http://dsbl.org/relay-methods which goes into it, although once again to do with email.

Yes, mom. I am sorry, can you forgive me.

***, you are an arrogent *I want to say something nasty, but I'll refrain. Think of some nasty term yourself* today. Wrong side of the bed or what?

This whole transparent proxy thing sucks. I get locked out of so many places because I have already downloaded nnn GB from that site in one hour. Meanwhile it is a combination of the other 60000 users using the same proxy. Anybody know if all SAIX ADSL uncapped traffic go through the same proxy ?

DFantom, your comments are not helping anyone. You basically just waste your time by trying your futile attempts at saying I do not know what I am saying. Right now you are unwelcome here. Actually I am wasting my time. Grow up kid.

So far as I know - ALL teklom Uncapped SAIX traffic use that PROXY, and there's nothing wrong with that, it speeds things up quite a bit, especially pictures.

Insofar as your claim that the site is blocking you cos it's recieving the Proxy's IP Address, methinks that you are incorrect. The SAIX Proxt does not cache anything with a ? in it, and, some sites do say - from IP Addres so and so, and it is your IP Address, not the Proxy's.

What you are experiencing is an advertising scam, get over it, web-sites that actually allow you to download WAREZ that are still in business are slight to non-existant, and if they do exist, chances are they've specifically given certain IP Addresses access.

Solution: Download less. Anyway this has nothing to do with SAIX. This is controlled by the site you are downloading from

Look, pablo, I have no idea what your issue is. If it is me or just life in general is pissing on your battery but I am not trying to say **** about what you know or don't. From your other posts you prove you knew what you are talking about, but for some reason in this thread you are losing all respect I had for you.
If you took that I was saying otherwise or that I was attacking you or that I said you don't know what you are saying, I appologise.
I am merely trying to provide information to help someone, same as you. Except all your responses directed at me are borderline personal attacks and are not helping anyone. Look at the length of the post you did to do two things, saying it's a pleasure and to tell me I misdunderstood the question, which I admitted I did. So I pose the question again what is your issue?

If you don't like me being around put me in your ignore list. Last I checked you were not a mod and had no choice over if I was here or not.

I agree

Yes even when the site contains a ? in the url, the connection still goes through the proxy, and the website still detects the proxy's IP.

Well it is actually the proxy IP address it is showing. And no it is not an advertising scam and nothing to do with warez. What on earth gave you that idea ? Try downloading something from for example rapidshare, and see what happens. Most free file servers implement this mechanism.

I'll download less as soon as you promise to post less crap, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. The issue I'm mentioning has everything to do with SAIX and nothing to do with my downloads.

Hmm, the bulk of my posts tend to try and help people (that does mean using a lart on occasion). So that means you should download next to nothing ;)

Fair enough, I am not all knowing (yet). So explain to me and my average sized brain how this is a SAIX problem? Please keep this as technical as possible.

Ive also had problems with sites that have a sort of hidden http front door that redirects to a https server which is checking that the original IP is the same as the https source IP. (the https is not going thru the proxie)

Transparent proxies are a very important part of modern ISP performance techniques, and their use is escalating everywhere. Any developer who builds an app that does not work with them is p***ing into wind. In Fact I believe making cache friendly file distribution is better than using mirrors & even bittorrent.

Virtually every time you see your downloads maxing out (55kBs for 512 kbs ADSL) on a single socket it is because it is cached nearby.
