HI

Is port 80 blocked by saix,I am trying to use a proxy on port 80 and nothing happens.

Thanks

D

port 80 is the http port, if any service run on that port and you try connect to it, the saix transparent proxy will pick it up.

Afterall, its an http port, you shouldnt run anything other than http services on this port.

not 'an' http port, THE http port

well theoretically it is an HTTP port as 80, 8000, 8001, 8080 are all considered HTTP ports :)

(I know i know, I'm a smart ass) :p

Guys

I am confused.

I have an proxy IP somewhere in UK and its states port 80, when I set it
in IE, it does not go thru the proxy,I can see my local ISP IP.

I am using webafricas R199 account

no because HTTP is one protocol, HTTPS is a seperate protocol being hypertext transfer protocol over secure sockets layer or transport layer secure

8080 is alt-http and is not an official port, 8001 has nothing to do with http or any offshott and just because youve seen someone with a webserver on that port doesnt mean its 'an http port'

i configed apache to run on port 25 once, so is 25 'an http port'? plesk configs a SSL httpd to run on port 8443, is that the http port? what about port 443 that ssl sites ussually run on? is that the http port?

no.. it isnt, kthx for playing

ok - sure but since they are commonly configured as http ports is is safe to asume that they are widly used as such.

Dear slimothy

I am not as clued up as you are with this ADSl setups...I am a average user.

Now I want to use a proxy I found on the net.I got the IP and the port, when I set it up on IE it does not work,so in simple english, is what I am trying incorrect or impossible.

well the most popular httpd, aptly named httpd from the apache software group comes with port 80 as its default and that is a registered port number, so thats the http port, thats all im saying

Sure 80 is the default but it is commonly configured as the ones i stated and is reserved, thats all I'm saying, but hey, telkom probably have no clue what we're talking about anyway and most likely shape the variants anyhow. so sorry to go off topic

So in english---what I am trying to achieve is impossible...Am I correct ?

yes you are correct, you cannot use a proxy on port 80 with your ISP

Get a FreeVPN account, the saix transparent proxy will not be an issue then.

Are you trying to connect to a local SA proxy on port 80? Or something other than a proxy, which you dont want to use to uncapped your adsl?

If its not to uncap your adsl, you will be able to use port 80 services other than http, if you connect via FreeVPN.

FreeVPN.--can you tell me about this-where can I get one.

I have the R199 webafrica account
