port communication

i installed the sentech modem onto another pc in my house and after install it wont register and when clicking on the icon to open the signal strenth screen to connect it says it is unable to open communications port check if modem is switched on blah blah blah.....

The modem works on the other pc's in my house.
Any helpers?

Key here would be "After install it won't register" I think.
Tried another USB port ? Which OS? Using the ST dialer app ? Installing as per instructions ? i.e software first, plug in device when asked for?

Ye ye following all the instructions. Reasdfing the modem through com port 3. Win XP media centre edition. ST dialler. Tried using just xp broadband dialer but it trys to read it through mini wan ppoe thingy.....

Had the same problem once after installing some new software that (i believe) messed with my USB ports somehow. I ended up reinstalling windows to get it to wprk again.

maybe windows media centre edition is doing it
