I have a microcom 4 port ADSL Router that supports NAT, etc.

we have a SQL box running on our internal network.

What we would achieve by accessing the machine is a text generated file that will be returned to a pc where ever we may be.

we have a software program that generates text code files.

if i set up my remote terminal to talk to an ip address & the pc on our
internal network responds then that would be perfect.

i would like to forward all requests from our WAN IP (telkom assigned) address on the router to the LAN pc's IP address (11.0.0.10).

i searched everywhere for support on this modem but i can't seem to find
any.

i have spoken to someone who said something about bridge filtering, etc
and that my router will already have NAT enabled.

is it as simple as just forwarding an ip address from WAN to LAN.

please could someone assist

This one is not easy to answer, without more clarity on your network config and what you're actually trying to achieve. Anyways, it seems you want to get some info off an SQL box that sits on your LAN, and send it to a box sitting on your WAN, with the WAN box having a fixed IP, and the whole action being initiated only when the WAN box requests it.

Given this understanding, this means that your WAN box should be made visible to the LAN (i.e. your SQL box on the LAN must be able to see it), and vice versa. This implies the allocation of an IP that is part of your LAN range, to the IP that your WAN box has, which you indeed setup via NAT on the router. Presumably this also applies to SQL box - you'd have to configure NAT to provide an 'external' IP in the same range as your WAN box, so it can be seen. Dunno about bridge filtering and how you'd setup NAT on the Microcom, unfortunately. Anyways, that's my rather simplistic and ignorant take on the issue - mebbe another forumite can help...

Oy!!!! You techie types out there - please help Megan with her problem (apologies if you're not a 'her' - no offence intended). I received a private email requesting further assistance, but have taken the liberty to post it here - I believe matters raised on a public forum should be responded to publicly. This way, everybody benefits and we're all just that little more the wiser... Seems as if my original understanding is now wrong - the WAN box now has a dynamic IP, or am I obfuscating things further? :o

thank you for replying
The microcom adsl router has a lan & wan side to it.
The ip address on the wan side of the router changes all the time as telkom is dynamic with this.
if i can get remote access to the pc on my lan that would sort everything out.
i just don't know how to forward external requests from the routers wan ip
to a fixed ip on my LAN.
any thoughts
Kind regards
Megan
