I have problems last two-three weeks with WA account. I use trading platform OTS for trading on the stock exchange. As I said last 2-3 weeks was almost impossible to connect to it.

After many e-mails to software provider and WA they came just now with story that reason for that is because of shaping during working hours, what makes sense because early in the morning and late at night I can connect no problems.

So I have Netgear DG834 and I should connect to this specific IP:
Server Address: 41.208.46.100
Port No: 8220

Will someone here be so kind to explain how to do this?

Thanks in advance

I smell BS... you should be able to connect during normal hours.

Tried another ADSL ISP package (eg afrihost, axxess, telkom)?

What services are running on that port?

If it's ftp, you should be able to connect to it like ftp <ipadress>:8220

Hi Librarian and thanks for prompt response.

Make sense because all was fine till this morning 8:15 and yesterday afternoon after 4:30 around. That platform was used by many traders in SA and last few weeks only guys that are using WA as ISP had problem. So WA representative said that they used port forwarding to solve problems.

Not sure what is the service.

EDIT: I can login to software just data is not coming, maybe another proof for shaping?

Bypassing shaping issues with port forwarding sounds like butkiss to me...You'd port forward if you hosted the service on a pc in your network and wanted to connect to it from outside. This sounds like a hosted service on a non-standard port which I could understand falls under shaping but I cannot fathom how forwarding could fix this

OK to add more to explanation. I can log in to IP but data is not coming. Should have stream of data just numbers coming not much I guess.

Well with the limited info you provided I can confirm I can telnet in to that IP and port, but i'm guessing it's waiting for some data before it starts transmitting

Can you even telnet in?

Update:
8:00 platform still working. Ping: 72ms
8:10 platform not working. Ping: Can't get any value
8:20 Logged in, but not getting data coming. Ping: Can't get any value
8:30 platform working. Ping: 80ms
11:30 still working fine

Will stop now and will see how it goes.

Hi guys

We have logged this issue with our engineering department.

At this time it is still being investigated to try and establish what the cause of the problem is.

As soon as I receive an update on the issue will inform you.

Thank you.
