May someone please help me to understand?

i am trying to open ports 3389 for RDP connection from outside my network to internal network through my adsl/vdsl router DSL-224 i have a DYNDNS Reg name linked to My public IP .

i have opened the ports on my router under the firewall section and enabled the port triggering, i am not sure if it is correct as it is not allowing me to connect to the remote desktop session with the DYNDNS name i have provided could some one please advise.

i have gone through videos online how to do this and read up on it but it still not allowing me to connect i have no internal firewalls just the router managing all traffic on my network.

help would be much appreciated thank you :)

You need to look for the section dealing with NAT - and you will need to set this up.

You need to tell the router to forward inbound traffic destined to port 3389 to the correct internal IP address on your network.

I would also suggest using a port other than 3389 in your NAT rules - and forwarding it to 3389 internally.

One word - don't.

Reason : most malware scans for open RDP ports, and once found, will attempt to compromise that PC.

I'd rather open a PPTP VPN port, and set a VPN server up, you VPN in first, then you can connect to the RDP PC. (QUick and easy setup, but NOT 100% secure)

Proper setup would be to implement an OpenVPN setup rather than PPTP VPN.

Use port forward and not port triggering.
But I would not advise you do that either, unless you want to be hacked...

Also, check on Dyn.com if your IP address is updating. I've had issues with several D-LINK routers not updating the IP when using DYN.com. I had to use dlinkddns.com which works even though it uses the dyn.com servers.

If you plan on going the OpenVPN route, get yourself a raspberry pi and use http://www.pivpn.io/ to setup OpenVPN which is an easy/simple OpenVPN installation script.

shush, let the n00bs who don't want to read the manual fail on their own.

Go ahead buddy. Open up the network.

Don't use something super-easy like free Teamviewer to do whatever you need to here.
