Hi,

I am trying to get e-mule working better by setting up port forwarding on my Macaroni ADSL Router POTS and have been trying all suggestion I have come across on this forum but still no luck.

In my Config (10.0.0.2) there is a NAT setting but not a PAT one. I have been to the Marconi site to update the firmware but the pictured modem (crap looking) looks different to my piece of crap looking modem. I would like to avoid frying the modem with the wrong update so could someone either point me in the direction of the correct update or reassure me that it will all be OK and that I wont have to deal with Telkom again any time soon.

Anyone in a similar spot?

Dont even try to set ports in emule according to their requirements, it will not work. All ports to 80, thats it!

What exactly are you trying to achieve "I am trying to get e-mule working better" is a bit ambiguous

I was running e-mule on a 56K and just as a matter of interest what is the difference (in Kbps) between a "normal" setting e.g. port 6247 and port 80 or 23 or whatever prioritised port it is? Or are the speed the same but not consistent?

The story thus far....

OK, the saga continues...

I followed the instructions to update the firmware from Marconi and they said hold down the reset button at the back of the modem... then the next step was "check that you have a version 2 ADSL Router (4 port)" ... well I didnt have a version 2 modem and so the firmware didnt work and I had helpfully reset the password and it wouldnt accept any of the defaults so I was locked out...

I swopped out the modem with Telkom ( who say they have tons of the version 1 modems pouring back in) and so am sitting now with a version 2 router/modem and still the same problem with getting a low ID in e-mule.

Through the configuration panel and with a helpful link to www.portforward.com I managed to set up the modem as a router, set up a static IP, Set up a virtual server and then set up a NAT session ... all of which I really hoped would open the way to better filesharing... but e-mule still seems to fall over when I try and test the ports ( their defaults). Do I need to set up a virtual server AND a NAT session?

I then tried to set the ports to 80 as suggested but I get an error from e-mule saying fatal error, cant connect to port 80.

What are the advantages of using the router aspects of the modem over just the modem capabilities.

Any light in this darkness woudl be appreciated.

Thanks
Gregg
