1. do you have to change these setting for every time you switch your bittorrent client ? ie you change from uTorrent to Miro ?

2. If you only using one isp do you have to put the router in bridge mode ? or can you just keep it as is (working through the router and not dialling up to the router) if you want to port forward

3. my router goes weird when i set it to bridge mode why ? eg the internet light on the modem goes red BUT i'm still able to connect to the net  then after a while it loses all connection unable to surf untill i set it back to the normal setting why ? (yes i did reboot the router and pc but still shows red light)

whats the best software to download to automatically to do the portfowarding ? (incase i can't manage it manually)

TIA

edit: i've downloaded a few guides of the interwebs but the questions above still bothered me :D i will try these guides tonight for bittorrent and uTorrent couldn't find one for Miro :( my router is the Billion Bipac 5200s rv model

Enable UPNP rather? If the P2P client support it, the application will set the port automatically.

tried that on uTorrent and Miro but doesn't seem to have worked

Is it enabled on the modem/router?

yes i'm sure it is but i'll double check tonight just to make sure, the main problem now is getting the router in bridge mode with out it bombing the connection

For the noob on port forwarding: If i connect to ADSL, doesn't that mean my prot is already forwarded? I've tried to look into this port forwarding, but my router doesn't show on any settings / manuals?

It's a mecer 4 port 802.???

If Bitorrent/Utorrent show a little green tick at the bottom, is it neccesary to mess with port settings etc?

yeah thats the one ! i guess so if you want the best speeds for torrents :( mine are crawling at the moment even during off peak times

Also look at www.portforward.com to see how to setup your modem/router. Choose your model and follow prompts.

thats the guide i just downloaded :D but it doesn't have miro on the list of clients so i've downloaded bittorrent and uTorrent and if that works i'll change my client from miro to which ever one that works ...

Using bit torrent 6.3? My downloads are around 36K on 384 line, but wondered if portforward would help. Went to portforward.com, but don't have my router. Will check the model tonight.

thats not bad at all if you getting constant 36k ! rather leave it then, my speeds are less than half of that on a good day !

yeah once my current downloads are done i'll switch clients,

thanks

Do it now and just import the downlaods. Easy peasy! No need to wait.

Install Utorrent.
Add torrent file to download q as per usual.
Set download location to where your current files are and let it just confirm/check file integrity.
Voila, download should resume no hassle.

In Utor you can have an unfinished DL folder and then a completed folder, but I find it easier to choose one destination folder with each download manually. You can set it up under settings somewhere to ask before each DL.

To set a download location of a file already being downloaded, right click it in Utor, go to advanced and click on "set download location" You typically do this if you moved a file or folder still being downloaded. Very useful. Once you set new location, it will just check the file and resume where it left off.

man thats cool ! didn't know that ! will give it a try

thanks
