Hi everyone,

I have a problem that I haven't been able to solve.

I am trying to forward ports from my home router to my PS4 to improve latency slightly and try to get an open NAT. I have setup my PS4 with a static IP and forwarded the necessary ports from my router (TP Link) to the static IP address assigned to my PS4. Tested - Connected but no effect. I then set my PS4 with static IP as a DMZ. Tested - Connected but no effect.

What suddenly dawned on me is that I use a TPLINK Powerline extender to get a wired connection from my router to my PS4. In the router settings this extender is listed as a bridge. Could this be negating/blocking the effect of the port forwarding?

I have no way to test if the ports are actually forwarded and have little or no effect on my latency/NAT type.
Do you think its possible that the extender acts as a double router and therefore needs to be forwarded twice?
Do you think its possible to get a better connection from using wifi+port forwarding and dropping the LAN extender?

Any advice?

Is the root issue high latency?

The powerline adapter wouldn't have a firewall i think and should act as a transparent bridge so no need to forward ports. If it does happen to have NAT then just disable it.

I wouldn't trust powerline adapters for gaming, if you have a weak signal between the units you could have some issues. Pull a cable through above the ceiling.

Well it's difficult to tell latency on the PS4 itself. If I run a speed test from my PC directly connected to the router, the latency is good. So you are probably right that the adapter adds a little lag to the throughput. Running a cable might be the solution but the adapter was originally my solution to avoid cable through my whole house. lol.

Thanks for the help.
