Hi guys

I purchased a billion router and wanted to know if I need to setup port forwarding if I'm to connect a SIP phone to da unit?

is it necessary? and why?

or can I simply plug in my phone and it should work without configuring port forwarding?

Bill:)

should just connect. aren't the settings configured on the phone.

the Vox phone has an IP address, and you have to forward the VOIP ports to the phone's address.
I can't remember the ports offhand, but can check tomorrow if you still need to know... Else just call their helpdesk and find out...

Depends on the router & SIP hw/sw used (I'm not familiar with the Supafone). In general this is what I would try in order of preference ...

1. If the the router & SIP hw/sw both support uPnP, enable on both and it should all be automatic
2. If the router offers a SIP ALG (some Billions do) enable it, but turn off all NAT traversal functionality on the SIP hw/sw as they will clash
3. If the router has no ALG, configure NAT traversal functionality on the SIP hw/sw (if supported, usually STUN)
4. Manual port forwarding on router & associated config on the SIP hw/sw
