What has happened with the speed??
I used to download from binary news groups at minimum 250 and usually up to 390 kbps. The last week I have barely reached 60 kbps????
I checked with several news suppliers and all the same, so no fault on that side.

Seems like Telkom started to seriously shape more and more. Also P2P speed is down seriously since last week.

What to do with my 30 Gigs now? Can just as well go back to standard dial-up with the speeds I've been getting during last week.

Any one else experienced the same, specially regarding newsgroups?

Yep I've experienced the same problem on newsgroups. I don't bother using direct nntp anymore - I use EasyNews instead. It's got a web interface so I can download without any shaping concerns. Check out www.easynews.com. $10 gets you 10 gigs of downloads in a month.

There's been a load of people experiencing very slow download speeds with any form of P2P as well. To me it's clear that Telkom has increased its shaping on certain protocols. What's very weird though is that some people aren't affected at all.

I gave up in newsgroup readers more than a year ago, because Telkom's port prioritisation stuffed up the whole scene. Funny that, because usenet was really the origin of the internet as we know it and preceded browsing.
I can only endorse all views on www.easynews.com. I have used them very happily over the last two years and they are starting to do some really nice web interfaces. Interestingly enough, they must wonder why I never download my full quota not knowing the stupid situation in RSA. I have actually been able to donate over 60gbytes unused to their Tsunami reliuef fund. Their service comes in at less than 10$ a month.

Just signed up at easynews. Already downloading and works perfect with full speed, got 512 line.
