I am going to buy ADSL in a shorst space of time, but something has been bothering me.

Firstly, the only two things I do on the internet is manag my website and download on P2P networks.

So, I have been loking around and I was wondering, what is that port shaping thing i read about on telkom's page. I see the word p2p near it, and I am worried it will affect my p2p downloads, since that is actually the reason I want ADSL. So, can someone please inform me. Is port shaping good or bad?

Port Shaping means, that p2p downloads get the lowest priority. That means you will not obtain the full speed possible (512 = 54kb/s) on a p2p download. You have to be satified with about 15 -20 kb/s, if ever.

well, i suppose its better than my current 5 kb/s. Not to mention I will at least be connected 24/7, so downloads will still go nice and fast....er.

I will most likely get 512. I am still debating with myself which service is best.

I cannot decide how much brandwitch will be sufficient. I like to download...movies...i dont know if I am allowed to say that on here. But anyway....

I would say more around 30 - 40 kb/s average (that's what i get on 512), depending on the quality of ur line... Some ppl I know dl at average 10 - 20Kb/s...

Well, for me the shaping really hasn't had much effect on what I download. I've only got a 192 connection, but I get my full speed on both normal P2P networks and Bittorrent. My speed is only affected if I try to surf and download at the same time, in which case the bandwidth seems very skewed towards my web activities.
