Does anyone know which ports are shaped and which are not. I have tried Telkom support, but they wont reviel, (not surprising).

I think everything 'cept port 80, and maybe port 110?

Telkom have the ports some were on their web site... but off the top of my head... port 80, 110, telnet, ftp, icmp ummm... thats all i can think of for the moment

The main priority is HTTP. At present, all international HTTP traffic is transparently cached for uncapped ADSL users. All international un-cached data is shaped. The following un-cached protocols are prioritised on the network: HTTP (in certain cases HTTP is not cached due to website incompatibilities), HTTPS, FTP, Mail (POP3, SMTP and IMAP), SSH and TELNET. Any protocol not mentioned above will receive a lower priority on the network

Why can't they shape it during the day, and unshape it during the night? I'm sure it can't be that difficult to administer. You get capped in anycase, so this won't impact on their bottom line. It will actually increase profits, because people would be using their bandwidth quicker.

nah, people won't be using their bandwidth quicker, they're too afraid to fork out another R1000 for 1mb when they get capped. hard capped. ;)

the reason why they shape is so that they can charge more for unshaped GBs - i.e. more $mackeroo$.

No, the reason why they shape it is to try and kill the VOIP competetion.

Shaping is a measurable thing and theoretically should be done (if at all) according to some procedure.
Does anyone know about?
