Hi Guys

Where will I find a portable mirror/raid setup? Sort of like an external usb drive, but something that provides redundancy. I need this quite urgently?

I don't mind buying an external device that I can add drives too?

Thanks

How portable?
How much raid you looking for?
Price range?

Small pc with 5-6 Hdd's running raid and FreeNAs... :D

Little bit more portable - something like this, but at a better price, I don't want to pay R5000 for a device, and then have to spend R3,000 on drives :)

Need a minimum of two drives, but would prefer 3 for raid and a bump in storage.

If you are dealing in lots of data, look for an eSATA connection. USB doesn't cut it for 100's of GB transfers.

Just an idea of what I want this for, I backup a lot of my stuff from my laptop and home pc, currently I back this up to three different external drives, which is time consuming - I'd like one backup destination, that is portable, has at least USB access, and obviously more than one drive for redundancy.

Why not get a home server- put is somewhere cool and forget about it. If you sort your network out, it won't need to be portable.

Back everything up via network. You can stream media etc from it too. Specs can be low too- just have lots of HDD bays.

Something like this ?

External Raid unit

Unfortunately it is closed but if the guy had 50 I am sure he still has some

Yip - that'd do.

Look into NAS, Seagate blackarmour

Thanks.... looking into it.

Need something portable - it'll mostly sit at work.
