Portable power station for alarm system

Hey,

Was wondering if these units can power my alarm? According to advertising, they are lithium and rated for 155w hours. I also read that some experience a shutdown after 3 to 4 hours and also when power is exceeded advertisied rating. Can anybody comment on these and what brand do you own? I need to leave it unattended.

 
None of those are UPS so they'll have to be switched on and plugged in manually, why not upgrade the battery to a lithium one?
 
Your alarm just needs an LFP battery and possibly an external float charger.



You can get away with just the battery and a cheap regulator set to 13.6 V but you would need to DIY it.
 
I'm looking at getting the Securi-prod battery but wanted something that will assist it for an extended duration of loadshedding.

I would prefer someone else to do it even though I might be able to do it myself.

If you dont wanna do it yourself (Understandable) , call your security company. They will rip you a little extra for the battery than if you bought it, But they doing the lifting...

Dont worry about UPS's or power stations like you posted here, Those wont work as they dont work as UPS's... meaning they cant charge and provide power at the same time

I meant that I could change the battery myself but the other charger and battery installation I could mess up. I've ordered the securi-prod battery now.

The alarm already has all the circuitry to charge a 12v battery. Just get a 12V compatible lithium battery. It wll work perfectly and give you many hours of backup (>5 hours easily).
 
Older IDS panels are NOT lithium compatible

In fact, anything produced before 2004 more than likely will not charge the battery adequately. This includes CADDX 8X00 series, FBI XL series, Paradox Espirit (prior to 1999)

This is sometimes the problem - it might technically have a charge circuit but the current can be so low that given a high enough stage of continuous loadshedding, the battery is actually slowly discharging (over weeks or months).

Being in partial discharge is what kills lead acid. But even LFP may eventually cut out and need to be recharged externally -- or have a better charger set up in parallel with the alarm.
 
Alarm PSUs vary between 350mA and 700mA. Most can be programmed if you are using a 50VA transformer

A house with 10 detectors and 2 keypad will require 250mA continuous supply. This will cater for 3 or 4 2-hour blackouts daily
 
So I swapped to lithium battery and it started tripping my alarm at about +/-4 months. Swapped it for another lithium and bought a lithium charger to recharge the old one (+/-12v at this point).

The charger charges at 14v some odd and has intelligent charging so it stops on its own. The resting voltage is about 14v just after charge. On then battery side it says nominal is 12.8v. I didn't check the voltage on the new fresh batteries so I don't know if its safe to put it back into alarm at 14v.

That's normal. It'll be fine. Lead acid tends to have a slightly lower open-circuit voltage but any system designed for them is going to be built with tolerance for 15 V at least and most likely 20 V+.
