Why is that no local (SA) supplier seems to have portable SSD hard drives such as the ones I see on multiple foreign sites - small (not much bigger than a USB stick) but with capacities of 1 or 2 Tb? These are easily obtainable overseas for around ZAR 500, but local operations only have 250-500Gb SSD portable drives, and then for thousands of Rands. What am I missing? Why is nobody importing these?

Please post the link to these drives here and in the Raspberry Pi forum

Chinese special? It's fake capacity.

Here's one : https://moilywind.com/collections/electronics/products/efficient-portable-ssd
And I've seen them on Wish.com too. But perhaps the "fake Chinese special" is correct. I haven't bought one so I don't know

As you can see you not going to get a 1TB NVMe SSD for less than about $100 and that is no where near
R500.

Here's another of those online "too good to be true" ads. This time it's a crew called NickBoli, and they're flogging two 2 TB flash drives for 523 ZAR. Yes, 2 Terra Bytes and two of them! People seem to be buying like crazy.
