Why not start by telling us exactly what you want to accomplish? It will be much easier to give helpful comments if we know what you want to do with your memory card after taking it out of the camera.

How much are you willing on spending? I see you can get a little camera connector for the iPod which will allow in-the-field storage. Costs R299.95 from Incredible Connection.

I need something like this too me thinks - I was taking photographs the other night at the boardwalk casino and sorely misjudged the amount of memory I would need (4gb was woefully inadequate).

Thankfully the missus had suggested that I take my old powerbook along just in case because I ended up filling the cards again!

A small storage device would be preferable to lugging around a 17" laptop though. I could have used my ipod but it doesnt support a card reader :(

A screen isnt that important to me - just storage.

I had the same problem when I went overseas - 3 weeks with 2 memory sticks wouldn't cut it.

I found a device that takes a memory card (lots of formats), you then push a button and it copies the contents of the card onto the internal drive (which you could buy seperately - 20 gig mobile drive worked great). I see in Kodak shops they stock something similar now with a little digital screen that show you the progress etc. There are fancier options that let you preview the pics on a little screen, but if you just want somewhere to dump pictures while you are away from your pc, that type of device without the colour screen will work perfectly.

I think it was called a V-Drive, but go have a look at your local Kodak shop and ask there. (It is made by the same people I got my original device from - like 5 years ago already)

Looks really cool...

will have to look at either extra memory cards, or this baby at some stage in the future...

Why not opt for the iPod camera connector as stated in this thread?

As I mentioned the ipod doesnt support my card reader.

I think I've come up with a temporary solution - I have the iPod adaptor and a 60gb ipod and while the the un-powered card reader wont work I've remembered I have an old canon ixus that I can use as a surrogate. :)

I've mentioned this before. I bought one for my mom because she travels with her camera all over the place. You can plug it direct into a camera or into a card reader, and it's a 1.8" drive with a battery pack. perfect. I bought it here because that's the best price i could find.
