Ported to Cell C? How much are you saving?

I was on a control chat 150 with Cell C, I swapped to a Straight up 100 and added 300MB data. I save R5 per month and have so many free minutes rolling over I am considering getting an 8ta sim card and calling it to use up all my free minutes. Not quite the comparison you're looking for but the equivalent on Voda would cost me R289 (excluding phone) as far as I can decipher.

As I said in my first post on the subject, yes I have, but the girlfriend's phone is an old Nokia.
 
With what you spend on sms you could get her a cheapy android phone that will do whatsapp.
 
Her contract is up for renewal soon, so hopefully she will get a cheapy android phone then.

Maybe get her an Asha. I know you can get both Whatsapp and Viber on those phones now

An alternative should you wish to port to Cell C is to take a rolling 1 month contract (basically 1 months cancellation period) on the straight up 30. With it you get 30 free mins, 30 Mbs, and 30 sms's. If you want to upsize the sms bundle, you can add on an extra 600 sms for R135.

If you exclude the R30 for the airtime etc, you paying R135 for 600 sms which is also 22.5 cents per sms.

Its not a bad alternative, but everyone seems to say that the Cell C billing department is horrible. There are loads of threads on these forums with unsolved issues.

I would get a prepaid sim, if they offered similar SMS pricing for prepaid users.

Nah you dont get that on prepaid or top up.

I take your point on the billing thing - although if you look around you should will find billing issues on all the networks. Thankfully i have not had any issues with Cell C - yet!
