When I used to be on Vodacom I used to load R110, I used to load a 100mb and tried to be frugile as possible when making calls and sometimes it wouldn't even be enough I often had to load an additional R29 before the month is over. Now That I am on Cell C even tough my internet usage on my phone as roughly trebled and not as frugal making calls I only need to load R70 airtime for the month and that's enough to cover me for the month.

I used to use about R250 per month excluding data on Mtn.
I now use about R150 which includes bis. The real saving will come when I move back to android. The data prices is my main motive for switching, followed closely by incompetence.

Used to spend about R350 - R450 pm on call charges alone on Vodacom. After porting this month I haven't yet spent R100.

It represents very good value for money comparatively. I'm on prepaid though, will not do contract due to their tremendous inability to deduct an accurate amount every month and also to stop deducting when the time comes.

From 200+89 for anytime 200 and 100mb on MTN to approx R70/mo on cell c prepaid.

R200 airtime on MTN gives about 84 minutes so with CellC I spend R15 on 100mb leaving me with R55 for 55 minutes so I've reduced the amount of minutes a bit but basically I wasn't always using those anyway. I'd probably save more going with a straight up 30 or 50 contract but prepaid is working nicely for me. I probably use more data though so sometimes do a second 100mb because with CellC I pretty much usually have HSDPA and I was getting frustrated with always being on EDGE with MTN because once your phone says "E" it basically means nothing will work except maybe some whatsapp messages.

My MTN bill including monthly contract fee and calls etc used to be between R300 to R600 on average. On Cell C I have not gone over my R200 per month for the straight up 200.

Used to be on Vodascum topup 135 which was R145pm. Now on month-to-month R30 topup and recharge about R15pm so saving R100

So good to hear this.

Currently spending about R950/month on 2 contracts.

Porting my wife's number next month and my own first thing next year. Bye bye MTN

Thanks Bas.

I certainly will do. Just waiting for the current contracts to come to and end.

Can't wait to be on an all inclusive contract.

I havent ported because Cell C's SMS prices are not competitive with Vodacom. Its the only area in which they are not competitive - in fact they are considerably more expensive. But I suppose they worked out that SMS is pure profit for them - they need something to pay salaries!

Yes I know about WhatsApp - I use it on my phone, but my girlfriend's phone is too old. So we SMS a lot, which is not exactly cheap on Vodacom but would be a lot more expensive on Cell C.

On a "99c for Real" package it costs 50c per SMS, anytime, any network.

I think it's 35c per SMS on Vodacom if it's after 20h00 and 80c before that.

Only "Vodacom All Day Per Minute" package charges you 50c during peak and off peak.

Unless you SMS your girlfriend only during "off-peak", Vodacom is not cheaper than Cell C.

Well this month I bought a 500 SMS bundle (on prepaid) which cost R112.50, which works out to 22.5c per SMS. These are anytime SMSes.

I know Cell C's contract SMS bundles are broadly competitive, but I dont want to be on contract.
